Hey, the Eagles knew enough to cut bait.

They're probably happy to be rid of his attitude.

Right because if his salary was $3 million they would still cut him.

I hope the Seahawks "take a chance" on him just like they did with Marshawn. They have to replace two top WRs to maintain their Superbowl level.

Oh, he "may" have friends in gangs. That changes everything. Nothing that might taint the pristine brand of the Philadelphia Eagles. Lol.

What a pathetic front, these guys would hire Sandusky if they could.

Pete Carroll has done a good job with straightening him out, which is interesting given that everybody outside of South Central during his PAC-10 reign of terror thought of Carroll as a renegade coach.

DeSean better get his story straightened out or every NFL exec is going to think of him as an Aaron Hernandez situation waiting to happen.

It still is interesting that DeSean posted this on Instagram a week ago:

A bunch of circumstantial evidence...

What a strange thing.

I am neutral towards him, like I am towards basically all Cal players except Marshawn Tony G and Aaron, but this is some crazy trash writing, it looks like.

OTOH, I do dislike Chippy, so whatever gets his best players off his team is OK with me.

Though I do not deny the possibility that Jackson may have a poor attitude, this article is built on pretty flimsy evidence. As near as I can tell, his associations are "troubling" because he runs a music label that has gangsters signed to it and because he was once arrested for marijuana possession (horrors!).

A pretty transparent hit piece, actually.

He's got a record label that has a rapper who was acquitted of murder and then a murder occurred outside a house he doesn't live in but owns for a family member to live in. That's the story. Total horsesh-t by the Eagles. They're making a financial decision and burying him with b.s. so their fans don't kill them.

So the Eagles give an extension to their white WR who divided the locker room after being caught on tape using the N word, but decide to cut DeSean, who's got a clean record, just because he has a friend who's in a gang? I have a friend who is a former gang member. Does that make me susceptible to committing murders like Aaron Hernandez? Give me a break. It's about the money, and the Eagles knew the fall out would be bad, so they wait until a Friday to drop the bomb and leak a bogus story about DeSean's character. What a classless organization.

To smear someone who has contributed greatly to your success on the way out is on the level of pond scum.

In other words, Chip Kelly can go to hell. He's a lying sack of sh*t. DeSean bought in and had a career year, and all he gets in return is a torn up contract. Instead of being straight up to DeSean, Chip lies to him and tells him not to worry about being traded. The Eagles are a classless organization, and they've got the perfect coach to run it.

YuSee - I'm curious as to why you think he should renegotiate his contract when he has 2-3 years left on his current one? That being said, I do think the report was irresponsible but I'm sure there's more to the story than his affiliations. Desean has an attitude problem. Whether one thinks that this is the reason for his being cut - no one knows.

Carroll makes sense. I can't seem Harbaugh wanting him on the team.

Personality-wise, Carroll's a good fit but personnel-wise I don't think the Hawks are a good fit. They already have Harvin. The Jets who just signed Vick have plenty of cap space. I'd say Jets, Packers or Raiders and would say the Patriots but I think they're close to the cap.

How onerous is DeSean's contract? Accord to this page, he was nominally the 8th highest paid receiver by average total value per year, but looks like he was more middle of the pack by guarantee per year.

I can buy the Eagles getting rid of him, but I can't fathom why they wouldn't get a pick for him rather than releasing him outright. I also can't imagine that they couldn't find another team willing to take on that salary for a player of DeSean's caliber. Is salary cap alchemy involved? The only thing that makes sense to me is if they caught wind of imminent felony charges or something like that.

You're assuming that's the case, but you're wrong. DeSean was asked a question about it, and he answered it, but by no means was he threatening to holdout if he didn't get an extension. Having said that, even if that were the case, I wouldn't blame the guy. Look at what the Eagles did. They ripped up the contract after DeSean had a career year and helped lead the team to a division title. DeSean was underpaid for a majority of his career, and after his best season, the team decides to cut him loose. How is that fair? Why should renegotiations be a one way street?

First, I loved Jackson at Cal. Attitude? He was the best player on the team. He backed up EVERYTHING.

But reading the indignation from some of you is instructive. If this was an SC player that was cut for the same reasons, each of you complaining here would have a page of justification for cutting the SC player--or even sending him to prison.

Jackson will get a new situation, and he will be terrific. I'd love to see him with the Packers. Always wondered how Rodgers and Jackson would have worked together.

This clearly looks like a salary dump and cap-clearing move by the Eagles, not a move based upon the speculation and innuendo (but what do I know, I'm sitting in the peanut gallery).

What's clear is the Eagles do not want Jackson on their team. Football decision, team decision? What difference does it make - it is the team's choice. Now Jackson can see what the market is.

This could be a great opportunity for him, if what he represents is true.

Yeah, it's a very strange phenomenon. I also noticed that if a player is wearing an SC jersey, I tend to root against him. On the other hand, if a player is wearing a Cal jersey, I tend to root for him.
