NYC, why didn't you tell us about your extremely lucrative career as a Master of the Universe on Wall St.???? Holding out on us?

My love of schmatta keeps me too busy as I serve my masters, the Titans of Finance. However, I did get to hang out with Eli Manning today.

I'll take major US metro areas for $500 Skidmark.

I think we got a couple of posters here from Belize, Costa Rica and the Caribbean. Those bears are always hung over and/or wasted when they post and they tell tall tales.

It was no mistake that you found yourself on Allbuffs.

In a parallel universe your alternate self is soaking in a lithium nudist hot spring with a couple hippie girls contemplating what kind of dry-fly to use in a battle of wits with a brown trout.

Say "hi" to the NYCNJ port authority next time they look through you.

Thanks for reminding me, my CU buddy tends bar up near there. I'll ask him about those halcyon days in Boulder.

So I was looking for NYC and Liver on AllBuffs and it turns out they are back over here. NYC, can't believe you racked up 140 posts over there already. You are a machine (I guess as a result of your Master of the Universe/Titan of Industry background - you play to win man). Thanks for hosting us over there Skid. Had a good time.

Lol. Many of those were from the last two BB seasons. I've had an account over there for a few years now. They're a good lot over there. Funny smart guys.

Hi dudeheads!

I'll bite and attempt to answer NYCGO's question.

Imagine NYCGO as some huge swinging dick on Wall Street.

Let's assume he has a Cal undergrad double-major in philosophy and mathematics. Let's go ahead and assume he was on the rowing team and medaled in the Olympics. He goes back to Cal for an MBA and a law degree.

Keep playing along. He is a total type-a over achiever by most social standards. Let's say he's a millionaire at 25, has a corner office at 30, founds a successful start-up, cashes in on an IPO, and goes on to serve on several boards of publicly traded companies.

The fatal flaw here is that NYCGO has made hash of his personal life. He's been married a few times. His kids are well cared for materially. They grow up in nice houses. They vacation in Switzerland, New Zealand, Hawaii, Phuket, and so forth. The kids go to either a kick ass public school or some exclusive private school. The family has second homes in Vail or Aspen, where they have enjoyed a family ski retreat for a number of years.

Are you still with me?

It turns out the first kid wants to be like dad. He or she wants to follow in dad's footprints. This means getting good grades, achieving superior results on aptitude tests, and getting into prestigious east or west coast schools.
The second kid is just as smart as the sibling. But instead of admiring dad, he or she has a deep seated belief that there is more to life than Wall Street or Silicon Valley and the relentless pursuit of the almighty dollar. The happiest family memories of dad is on Holidays skiing the slopes, fishing the trout streams, and riding the woods on a mountain bike. Child number two wants to pursue an aesthetic lifestyle that places a premium on enjoying the great out-doors. The value system includes seeing value in the Peace Corps, and championing under-privileged cultures through efforts to provide potable drinking water, or nets to prevent malaria.

Child #2 scores 95th percentile or better on the SAT, but graduates with a 2.9 GPA. This is due to giving no fucks about playing the game. But the kid is bright, determined, and passionate. CU isn't on the same lofty level as Harvard, but there are just enough Nobel Prizes and Fulbright Scholars, and astronauts to give the school a modicum of respectability. It's basically a mountain version of UC Santa Barbara.

Kid 2 can afford the out of state tuition, has the keys to the Vail second home, and isn't opposed to the occasional bong hit. The pow-pow is righteous. The parties are legit, and the intellectual conversations incorporate elements of dad's world, and whatever free-spirit liberal bull-**** that the idle privileged have been spewing since the birth of King Louis XIV's bastard spawn.

CU is no safety school; it's a lifestyle first choice. Ski-U Boulder, halfway between reality and the mountains. In a nut-shell, the kids are wicked smart, kinda lazy, and basically modern-day Dionysian pleasure seekers with enough charisma and character to play for five or six or seven years under the cover of an education.

And they leave Boulder with more happy memories than most Joe-Sixpack kids will experience in a lifetime.

When selecting where to eat at the buffet table of life, there are worse choices than CU Boulder.

Don't hate us because we are spoiled, have good stories, and don't regret the moment when it became clear that money, while abundant, is also over-rated.

This story plays out in the thousands, year after year.

Enjoy your second child, NYCGO.

Your assertion that Colorado is full of highly intelligent, slightly unmotivated students who just want to ski and smoke weed is pretty comical. Colorado isn't close to being on the same level as UC Santa Barbara academically. The best comparison is San Diego State and even San Diego State is harder to get into than Colorado.

ASU = where dumbasses from California go when they can't get into the decent Cal States
Colorado = where wealthy dumbasses from California go when they can't get into the decent Cal States

LOL When did CU become Trinity? It's San Diego State without the beach, perfect weather, and much easier to get into.

I'm guessing one of these was supposed to be CU. Academic smack talk is better when not involving typos.

I'm not sure what happened in this thread but I like the progression.

We bash CU.
CU fans then come over and bash us.
ProspeCt makes an appearance.
During the exchanges we defend UCSB and San Diego State.
A Husky then chimes in and bashes ASU and CU.
We then bash the Husky.

Not a bad sequence of events.

The Husky deserved it. I saw that too sebastabear - I'm sure he wanted to put CU on the bottom one, but ...big fail on his part. Woof woof.

You actually made me look into San Diego State with all this smack and have to admit I am impressed with how far they have come. When I was a senior in HS (Del Mar, Torrey Pines), anyone could get into SDSU. Anyone. Its where the short bus kids went. They still rank for **** in all those silly arbitrary academic rankings, but impressed.

Don't think you'll find a single academic ranking that has CU lower than 6th in the PAC. But do find this line of smack entertaining, we never got this in the Big 12.

FWIW BowDown -- it was 1990, but personally speaking, USC was my safety school. Got into USC, UCSB, Pepperdine, Washington, Colorado and was waitlisted at fUCLA. CU had just won the MNC and I love to ski. No brainer. Couldn't have given a rip less about education back then. So guess you had me pegged. Wealthy dumbass who go into every school I applied, including UW.
