I'm going to the game there in a few weeks (and then the Warriors game in Portland the day after). I've never been to Reser and haven't bought tickets yet. Anyone know where the Cal sections are and where the OSU student sections are? I want to be near the former and avoid the latter.

Any suggestions for pre or postgame? Is there much to do in Corvallis or should I minimize time there and hang out in Portland?

The Cal section is typically a small quadrant in the south (?) end zone. The last time I was at Reser the student and alumni sections were kind of like at Memorial, which is to say it shouldn't be an issue if you sit in the Cal section. Pre/Post game...my experience has always been that Beaver fans are gracious hosts. You probably can hang in the parking lot and join some tailgaiting. I'm not aware of anything to do away from the stadium. I would definitely maximize my time in Portland and skip Corvalis.

I've been there a few times and Tequilla is right , the Cal section will be in the endzone area..actually not bad seats. You can get better seats if you dont mind sitting with OSU Beavers who in general are a pretty nice fanbase. As far as fun...well its Oregon...lots of neat outdoors kinda things. The coast has a million beautiful places to see.

If you are a wine fan, Corvallis has more than enough to do. We had a great time there a few years back, and there were some wonderful restaurants in the area. If it isn't your thing, then definitely stay in Portland.

Coming from an OSU grad that now lives in Portland.... There's something to see or do in both depending on interests.... Corvallis is the quintessential college town, and the Fall colors will be gorgeous. There's lots of cool little eatery's and breweries and eclectic shops downtown, and the waterfront area is nice. The campus and Greek areas are worth a walk around in my opinion. Now Portland it is not......Portland is in my opinion one of the coolest 'little big cities' around, and there's not enough room here to expound on that.

All that said, people in Corvallis are night and day different than in Eugene and the stadium experience is quite the opposite as well. It's a little hokey, a little small town America, but being a guy that came from the concrete jungles of Orange County, I'd take Corvallis any day.

I agree. Haven't been to a game there but I do like Corvallis the college town. Growing up I liked being near the big city, but the older I got, the more I appreciated the small town college feel. I like Fall in small college towns. There are several good little restaurants and breweries as mentioned. Very laid back...to me, it is like a more mellow, less techy, more homey Boulder Co. which is more refined, but busier at times...plus Corvalis is still only a little over an hour from Portland.....as opposed to Pullman Wa. which is just OUT THERE near Spokane...

This will be my fourth trip to Corvallis for a Cal game. The fans have generally been gracious, even though they've won each time I've gone. There are lots of tailgaters prior to the game and many will be happy to host you for a while. We've tried one or two of the bars after a game, but generally head back to Portland for our traditional post-Cal game dinner at Montage, a quirky Cajun restaurant with an interesting crowd after midnight. This year's game being so close to Halloween, it's likely to be even more lively than usual. We've sat in the Cal section and bought better seats from StubHub. The fans are fine, but we've preferred sitting with Cal fans. Look for our group of five. Can't miss us, we'll all be in decked out in Cal gear.

I have been to OSU twice for games. Some fans will hassle you and be jerks but it is tolerable (nothing like Eugene, Fresno State or ASU). Stadium is nice and I have enjoyed sitting in the CAL section. Walk around campus and town.
I recommend staying across the street from the stadium if you can get a room (Hilton Garden Inn?). No need to stay so far away in Portland unless you are driving down just for the game. There are less expensive room choices 30-40 minutes away north on the freeway towards Portland (lower cost Marriott options, etc.). If you stay two nights, there might be other games available too (Women's volleyball, etc.). Go Bears.

UO is scheduled to play Snodfart that same day. I don't know how Portland fits into the timing of your travel plans, but I-5 will likely be a congested mess on game day, especially if the starting times of the games are close to each other.

Boredom, did the OSU game two years ago on a cold, wet night where we got whooped in JT's last game and we stayed in Portland, which is pretty fun as BeaverDreams pointed out, especially if you like beer. We took the back roads down and stopped at a few different McMenamins pubs on the way down. The way back we took I-5, which was awful as the Duck game ended around the same time. Keep I-5 traffic in mind. I liked the stadium - visitors are in the endzone - and the tailgating experience with friends. I don't recall being that close to the students. You can get seats under the overhang I'm sure if weather is something you are worried about.

Lived in Portland area for 20 years, went to games at both venues. Pluses and minuses each time. Last time I went to Corvallis (2008) we got stuck way up high in the south stands next to some jerk Beaver fans. The prior 2 times, 2004 and 2006, was in the endzone with the rest of the Cal fans. Much better place to sit, obviously. Saw the OR game in 2007, we won 31-24 and after the fans were very gracious as we left the stadium. So it can go either way. As for Corvallis, I like their downtown area, nice to walk around, hit McMenamins. I always used the back way down to Corvallis from Portland, 99W through McMinnville (also a nice place to stop), much easier to get there than using I-5. Hope that helps. Go Bears!
