I've tried to look at as many of his highlights as possible. There doesn't seem to be anything not to like about him. With the added advantage of having a spring practice under his belt, I could see Sonny starting him, a la Goff, as a true freshman. Kid is impressive and he's got wheels.

I agree that Max looks pretty good right now. But let's not annoint him as the starter just yet. Chase and Bowers will have something to say abouth that.
One thing I like about Sonny, is that all positions are open to competition. The best player will start. From what I see, there are 3 strong candidates ASSUMING that Goff decides to go to the NFL.

Don't forget the big game this Fri with Max's Thousand Oaks HS going up against powerhouse Oaks Christian. Both teams undefeated going into this game. Chance to see Cal recruit Colby Parkinson (WR/TE) on the Oaks Christian team, although he also has offer from USC.

Game televised on Prime Ticket and also available via livestream from Fox Sports Go (you may need pay TV subscription):

+1 ... performance in S&C and on the practice field = on the field or not

just to be fair, I was also tracking the performance of our other QB Commit from LA ... Armani Rogers. But it appears there have been no stats or highlights for his games this season. His Hamilton team's W-L record is definitely not as good as Max's undefeated Thousand Oaks team. So, nothing to report on Armani Rogers unless any of you can find something.

Congrats to Max. I have been following his games and sharing his stats and highlights on another thread. I think he may well be our next QB after Goff.

I live near Thousand Oaks and have had the opportunity to watch Max on a couple of occasions. He is very good but before he gets anointed, consider that his schedule so far has been very weak. For example, Agoura has not had a win this season and is at team losing to poor teams because of a lack of talent. Simi Valley isn't much better. Oaks Christian will be a test for sure. I'm glad Max is taking care of his business though. I also got to watch him play first hand against my son's team, Sierra Canyon, in passing league before the season and when he plays against a better team, it's not as impressive. Our QB, Niko Harris and our receivers/secondary, made him look rather pedestrian and that is more of what he will face in the PAC-12. Someone should forward the clips of that game to SD as Niko should be on his list too. But yes, he has a lot of impressive tools.

true. but OC has also played a lot of terrible teams. both are undefeated, but OC has more talent, so hope Max can take care of business.

I know I was there with him. He was there with one of our stud OL guys and one of our running backs. He loved Cal.....what's not to love! But Niko is the real deal. His accuracy is uncanny and he's fast (4.6), he's our punter, field goal kicker and he kicks all of our kick-offs to the back of the end zone every time. He's been reading defenses since he was 8. Whoever lands him will get a great QB...I hope it's Cal!

Thanks, good info. I like the "uncanny accuracy" comment. He's kicking to the back of the end zone from the 40 so that is 5 yards into the end zone in college - better than what we normally do.

Kick off your football weekend by watching Cal commit Max Gilliam lead Thousand Oaks HS against rival and powerhouse Oaks Christian. This game pits a public school against a private school that is just several miles away. The private school has dominated the series in recent years but the public school is riding an undefeated streak this year led by its highly-rated QB. Sounds familiar?

From watching his HLs, his OL is painfully lacking in pass protection, even against the poor competition they had been facing. How many sacks so far; has he been hurried all game despite his quick release?
BearsObserver

Max just had a long TD pass called back due to facemask penalty on his WR. Oaks Christian is just bigger, stronger, and faster at the skill positions.
