even without 40 years of coaching, one can see the difference between a Becker and a Weaver. and like you said yourself, one is a JC product, putting up mediocre numbers, and one is a HS kid, who is already dominating.


Actually, Becker's numbers were very good. 53 tackles, 10.0 sacks and one forced fumble over seven games at DT is a very good stat line. Can't speak for the competition, but his numbers definitely aren't an argument against Becker.

"MAX GILLIAM THOUSAND OAKS QUARTERBACK The 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior was one of the most efficient passers in county history. He completed 217 of 294 passes for 40 TDs and just five interceptions as a senior. His career 71.5 completion percentage is second all time. Gilliam threw more TDs than incompletions twice. The multitalented athlete also ran for 1,291 yards and 22 TDs over his two seasons as a starter. The VCFCA tri-MVP tied the county record with seven TD passes in a 53-26 win over Canyon on Sept. 4. Gilliam guided the Lancers to 18 wins in two years and a berth in the CIF-SS Northern Division final as a senior. He has committed to play football at UC Berkeley."

Cal recruit QB Cameron Rising (HS junior next season) also mentioned, but he may follow his older brother to ASU.

"MAX GILLIAM

Thousand Oaks, QB, Sr.

Gilliam led Thousand Oaks its third CIF sectional final in school history and did it with his arm and legs. The Cal commit threw for 3,413 yards and 40 touchdowns - including a seven-touchdown effort against Canyon - while rushing for 666 yards and 10 scores. He was also one of the top punters in the Southern Section with an average of 40.6 yards per punt."

Personally I think it is going to be Forrest or Gilliam.

And I'm much more enthusiastic about Forrest than most here, but I think he's going to have some serious competition as early as March.

Serious competition, uh yeah.
Not to forget that Bowers is well credentialed and was the QB for the bowl game scout team because he can run.
And Luke could (re-)discover passing skills and push them all.
Gilliam will do well 'shirting.
