Another mass shooting incident. This one in San Bernardino at a Center for developmentally disabled. 3 shooters, "at least 14 dead and 20+ injured."

This is such a sad situation.
I was going to make some lame joke about putting reasonable limits on our right to bear arms. But each time i tried I could not bring myself to actually post what I had typed. No way could I make light of the situation (however well intentioned). Shooting people who were or were helping the developmentally disabled.
It is just so sad.

Let's just arm everybody with AK47's and then this won't happen. Mandatory heavy arms training in elementary schools should do it. With much love from your local NRA.

Here is the saddest part: after each of these terror incidents, gun sales spike. Looks like we're in a closed loop death spiral. Yup, bad sh*t keeps happening and right after that bad sh*t happens again, people go load up on the bad sh*t. Crazy and really, really sad.

No it won't end until something beyond comprehension happens but if we're so desensitized to this stuff. One would think that Sandy Hook with all those young children killed in cold blood was that incident but it wasn't.

Yeah if that didn't change people's minds nothing will. Mass shootings are just part of the US and you'll have learn to live with the risk. If you don't want to, you'll need to move to Canada. The situation will never change.

It's never going to end with the gun lobby having so much power. All my friends that hunt have never understood this insane infatuation with automatic weapons that the NRA so insanely defends. And these are guys from Montana.

Some kind of terrorism-multiple shooters with automatic weapons. Radical muslims are the obvious "usual suspects" but they don't usually hit and run like this, nor does the target make sense. Maybe, there is more coming.

It's obvious what strategy the NRA and the pro-gun-rights crowd is using: wear down the opposition until they surrender. Their mission statement probably includes something along the lines of "By 2030, the idea of protesting gun rights will be an antiquated novelty". They're hoping we'll get to a point where everyone just shrugs at incidents like these and says, "That's just how it is, it's not like we can get rid of guns, this is America."

They're hoping people who actually believe gun rights can be reduced will dwindle in number over the years, dying of old age (or maybe getting shot by people with guns), and be replaced by apathetic younger generations that just accept loose gun laws as an unchangeable reality.

Man, they just showed a dead body and the aftermath of a shootout from a helicopter.

And -- to put this on a tangential note -- it gave me flashbacks of living in L.A.

The theory of mutual assured destruction applies to nation states with nuclear weapons and not to every nut with a gun.

Calling all nuts who own guns, you know who you are! Please turn them in immediately to your local police department.

Even if the 2nd amendment were abolished today. Taking all the existing guns away would be equivalent to deporting all the illegals. The nuts would really come out of the woodwork. Never gonna happen.

No it will not end as long as 1) it's easy to acquire arms in this country and 2) the media turns these shooters into celebrities.

California already has stricter gun laws than all the states in the union and even Canada.

Guess who has guns if they're taking away from law abiding citizens? Police and criminals.

Guess who ends up getting hit the most? Innocent citizens who cant defend themselves because they abide the law.

They already accomplished this with regard to the Second Amendment and whether it guarantees private right of ownership. That did not used to be so well accepted, legally and otherwise.

Horrible situation. So sad for San Bernardino and California as a whole.

To answer your question: not until someone decides to do something about it.

Who said this is just an American problem? BTW, a lot of unknowns before we jump to conclusions. Even the number of shooters is not clear yet, or the motive. The last place I would look for accuracy at this point is advance news reports. If you want to see how grossly inaccurate news reports led to false views on a mass shooting incident read Dave Cullen's book on Columbine. You will think twice about ever quoting the NY Times or any other major publication again.

Or maybe not. Names like Mark Chahal, Roger Warren, Mark Lepine, Victor Hoffman, etc. mean anything to you? Hint: they are Canadians that shot up places. Our northern cousins are not immune to the problem, though is the frequency of mass killings is far less (so is their population). BTW, while Canada does limit certain types of weapons, its probably on the US side of the equation when it comes to ownership and regulation. You might want to consider moving to China for a country with significant controls on firearms (this from a non-gun owner).

Yes but if you limit the number of new gun sales NATIONWIDE eventually the existing guns in operation will be significantly reduced by attrition and gun-buyback programs and confiscation upon arrest of felons carrying guns.

Obama said that no industralized country has a problem with mass shootings close to the scale of the USA.
