Looking at some of the *ahem* characters on their coaching staff, it's clear that Alabama cares about winning more than just about anything else. They're certainly not alone in the CFB world in this regard, but they do just about everything bigger and better than most.

You need gigantic violent play makers 2 deep up and down the lines

Everything else is secondary

With good recruits you have a good chance of winning any game no matter who which team you are playing....with middle of the road recruits you have to wait 3 to 4 years for them to be production, well not all but most of all....so that is why we will be a middle of the road team for the coming years.

This is what everyone ignores because this is where the elite programs differentiate themselves. This is where Stanford entered the elite class, when Harbaugh informed them of this 'secret.' This is why we will struggle to compete without elaborate schemes and/or once in a lifetime playmakers at skill positions. Notice QBs and RBs that operated behind these monstrous 4/5* 2-3 deep lines at Bama and Stanford are lackluster in the NFL...Richardson Lacy Bell McCarron Gerhardt Luck. Soon you can add Hogan, McCaffery, Henry to that list. Meanwhile we put out a list of Pro-Bowlers(and two future HOFers), and can't win. Why? "You need gigantic violent playmakers 2 deep up and down the lines."

Learned that if you recruit a bunch of five star players - you're a great coach and you win championships.

Oh bullshit, it ain't news and it ain't a secret. Literally every coach knows this, and they know it better than you do. It's not a secret, it's just *really, really* hard to do. It's harder to find gifted lineman (particularly DTs, which is the hardest position to recruit) than skilled QBs or RBs, and the top programs grab 'em before lesser programs can. The key isn't to recruit better lineman by just magically deciding to do it, it's to make your program better until you can compete for recruits with the top programs.

Also, Luck and Lacy are outstanding pros....

Alabama has one major professional sports teams - University of Alabama Crimson Tide. CFB is the official state religion and culture of Alabama.

I learned that Clemsons defensive backfield is not very good. I learned that had Clemson defended Alabamas tight end the Tide would have been toast. I learned that Clemson is one hell of a football team that was worthy of it's number one ranking......until last night.

Just curious, ...

How many Bama players could survive the first midterms as freshmen at UC Berkeley? first finals?
What grades would they receive on research papers (written by themselves)?

Cal is UC Berkeley

Seriously Luck got outplayed by Hasselbeck this year. It wasn't close. He's a total bust that will continue to b given every chance imaginable, down to having 90% of their picks be offensive to surround him. He still can't do it.

Lacy don't even get me started. While healthy, replaced as starter by Starks. Embarrassing.

YES! Bama didn't win with two star recruits. Clemson didn't lose a tight game with two star recruits.

We saw again that Alabama knows how to win the college football championship. That Nick Saban is a coach who knows how to win championships, maybe better than anyone but Rockne. But we'll never compete with Alabama, and that's ok with me. What is not ok? That as much as we'd love for our school to win just a conference championship, it will likely not happen. After 56 years, it's really unlikely. Co champs without a top bowl game is not a championship. That watching our rival be our equal academically and still win multiple conference championships is really painful. Furd totally kicks our ass. At least when I went to Cal, they were about as mediocre as our Bears.

Funny preseason rankings added to weak schedule + 7 MILLION DOLLARS hc their s/c coach makes what our oc/DC make

Furds S/*c Coach makes more than our coordinators

Furd spends cash we don't cant won't

When Cal spends what ucla pays then you / can criticize to your hearts content

We are "balling on a budget" aka it's going to take time ...

Go Bears

wait, we can't criticize Cal for not willing to spend? and for not having "competitive" assistant pay until 2016?

also, how much is Furd spending on S&C? I thought their numbers are private

I suspect it was a nice opportunity for west coast and pac-12 fans to watch some southern football. Given the surplus of other entertainment options available only to those on the west coast, such an opportunity to watch a game like this is probably pretty rare.

Saying look at whole picture ... Can't be mad at results if we care paying below market rates

When one criticizes use some kind filter

It's two groups here
one that still thinks Jt is God and had no doings with 2013 results and subsequent hole we are still digging out of

Two are the people that see sonny has/is cleaning up the mess left to him on the cheap and winning

I'll say again to pay any D1 p5 coach 180k living in the bay area is shameful

We have gotten way more than we have spent minus cms imo

I learned that college football is almost not at all about college and almost entirely about football. What I saw were two jokes of academic institutions from Alabama and South Carolina run by former plantation owners hiring greedy, opportunistic mercenaries to exploit roided up black men for their own selfish gain and amusement.

If that's what college football is all about, I'd rather see my alma mater opt out of the whole thing. I don't need what I saw last night. I have the NFL for that.

I much preferred watching the student athletes of the University of California competing against the noble cadets of the Air Force academy.
