Tre Watson = Leader

Looking forward to 1,000+ yards from him behind Brandon Jones' bullrushing OLine next year.

Tre Watson = also talented and unselfish ... as it once was.

As recently as Jan 13th, Dykes was saying in interviews he expected no staff changes. So if this has been brewing all along (and certainly on Insider, these rumors were known and discussed for a while), seems odd Dykes would say this repeatedly since the end of the season.

He may be a good one, but his one year at KU was a disaster...offensive production was terrible...lost every game last year and it wasn't even close. IDK....would like to see him do more as an OC before we take him back.

You may be absolutely right RGB, however we'd have to look at the talent base he inherited vs his planned offensive strategy and determine if they fit. The first year here by coach Dykes didn't go exactly well for us either.

To be fair, Likens walked into maybe one of the worst roster situations in decades at KU.

Saw an article on how their roster was decimated the last few years and it was somehow even worse than what Dykes inherited.

Any insight into who they may be looking at?

Agree. Those were my initial feelings. My only question is whether Sonny or Tony is responsible for the offensive fire power at Cal.
Everywhere Sonny has gone he has had great offensive production (lots of yards and lots of scoring) he also has brought out the best his QB's (regardless whether the were a Jared Goff or QB with lesser talent). Was that Sonny's doing or Tony's doing?

Well Foles was Sonny's QB when he was OC at UofA. He turned out okay.

I actually think this is good news. TF was not a good OC. He runs a simple HS offense (Campolindo's offense has elements of more sophistication than TF's). I don't think his offense works v. good teams. Hate that we don't use FB, TE or throw to the backs.

I feel the same way about Franklin's offense. Running the same seven plays out of two formations is not only easy to scheme against...but so BORING to watch!! ....let's get back to a real offense with some depth in terms of scheme, formation, play-calling, etc.

Yeah, one thing I can say about Cal the last two years is I was almost never bored. Frustrated, elated, horrified, ecstatic..... those all apply. But bored? Nope.

MB, do you have a guess as to when a new person may be announced?

Were commits informed during this latest round of home visits?

It was bad. KU was using practice players in multiple spots and got steamrolled in every game including at home against FCS South Dakota State, who led 31-7 at halftime. Hard to assess Likens based on that.

I too wonder why Dykes said "no coaching turnover" so recently....

To be fair, he said "should be" no coaching turnover...not "will be" no.

If the speculation is right that Dykes forced him out, I hope he's not underestimating Franklin's value in spite of the vertical sets and simple playbook (which can be a good thing.) I disagree with those who say Dykes' offense at Arizona (without Franklin) was better than at Cal (with Franklin). I'd like to see a statistical comparison, but don't have time to do that right now.

Melt them down into a statue of a lineman in the vertical set.

1) speculation is ... speculation, and not worth the bandwidth it was sent on.
2) apples and brussel sprouts ... see 1) ... totally different times and circumstances.

The KU job was/still is a nightmare -- especially given the style of play & schemes used in the Big XII. There are a ton of inherent disadvantages to that program, and coupled with the way it was managed over the past decade, there's really not much that anyone could do to make things look less ugly from a scoreboard perspective.

Still, Likens is an excellent coach, I feel like he would definitely be someone that could step in. He has knowledge of the school / program / most of the players.

i think he was a good WR coach. how has he done @ Kansas? or has it been such a dumpster fire that it obscures any competency on the staff, if it exists?

Easy to scheme against if you're a good team. Case in point: our results of late against USC, UCLA, furd and Oregon.

KU is basically a bad FCS team playing in a BCS conference. Not really much can be done in a 1 year period to fix anything.
