Sonny doesn't exactly project excitement about the incoming class.

I heard his words conveying otherwise ... not sure what you might be looking for?

I'm looking for excitement and enthusiasm, rather than a drab monotone. He needs to show some spunk about the quality and talent of this class. Unfortunately, I saw none of that. Maybe it's just not in his character, although I've seen his locker room demeanor after some of our wins, and there is excitement and enthusiasm there.

Did we get the "Lil" guy? We need "Lil" and Gentle in the same class.

I didn't see anything wrong with the video. That's Sonny in these pressers. Plus, he's probably had very little sleep during the past week. But his comments sounded great, I thought. I especially liked what he said about the receivers, Melquise Stovall and how these players come from big-time, winning programs.

He went into detail about what their criteria was for this class at specific positions and was obviously pleased with the results, naming names, listing player qualities ... he's not and never has been a Trump-esque speaker, thank gawd.
Listen to what he said, not how he said it.

Days after news going public(big enough to shut things down for everyone)
Schools probably used it as negative vs Cal

not going to repeat anything that has already been reported. here is the LB that Cal visited in home last week but apparently never offered. ended up with SDSU. was committed to Oregon St.

I'm really liking this class, we have some playmakers in Stoval and Zion. I'm really like Clark, totally reminds me of E Dickerson, if you get a chance watch his full hudl highlights. The receivers are all big and accomplished. It was interesting to hear that maybe a few of the bigger safties could be moved to backer, I like the idea of getting more athletic there. On the D line side it looks like they're recruiting athletes and bulking them up to get the speed they need. Corners all look great and the oline is huge and looks to be quick. All in all a great class with many already enrolled. I think the playmakers especially Stoval will have a huge impact on how defenses play us, no more all out blitzs or sitting in zone without paying the price. The other thing I like is we have receivers that are big and attack the ball, should see a lot of pi penalties in the next few years. And Ulave is still here. I read a few months back on a different site that they are probably moving away from the verticle set. Can't wait for spring ball!!!

Yeah, I agree. I watched most of the short recruit highlight videos and one of the groups that really stood out was our DT & DE recruits.

They all look to have good first steps and great awareness to get off blocks and tackle.

Just curious and not intending to stir the pot here, but what's our situation at LB and safety since we only got one LB and no safeties this class? We got a lot of DBs which I have no problem with in the pass happy Pac-12, but it seems that they have nice size but perhaps a bit small for safety. I know we got a few last year. No tight ends either.

If you get a chance watch Dykes press conference on YouTube. In a nutshell he said they could be moving some of the bigger safties to lb and that they would need to sign at least three lbs next year. To me it sounded like him acknowledging its a need that wasn't fulfilled this year but is a top priority next year. I like the idea of moving some of the bigger safties and converting some of the bigger corners to saftey. I think we will see alot more of this at most positions in the future. I loved how Drew played last year, he was a beast. Going this route could cause problems against power teams though.

Here you go, also great videos on the recruits. If your not familiar with YouTube you can subscribe to the CAL channel, lost of good content.

Updated link thanks bearbacker

Sonny addressed that at the beginning of his press conference. He said they picked up safeties last year and focused on CBs this year to add athleticism and some of them may be big enough to be converted to safety. He also said that they have some guys who may be converted to LB and they definitely will need 3-4 LBs for next year's recruiting cycle. I think he would like to have more LBs but they prioritized and also may have opted to go in some instances with a more talented player at another position than a less talented LB. The LB they picked up (Cameron Goode from Texas) looks very good. No one asked him about tight ends but Raymond Hudson is coming back and he made reference to one of the receivers being similar to Stephen Anderson, who played TE last season.

One other thing Dykes mentioned was the recievers brought in last year and especially this year are larger then in the past which will lead to alot more physical play. The offense doesn't really feature a tight end, I bet if they could get an athletic te they would take him but otherwise would rather stick with the large receivers.

Larger recievrs equals possession football wrt short to intermediate and red zone play making as well as blocking for the running game. Throw in a decent dual threat qb and some deep threat speed and looks pretty smart to me on O. 2016 will be more interesting as the season progresses. And 2017 is a big year.

Tall receivers tend to get "larger" as they put on good weight ... and these guys can run and catch.
