Not sure we "missed" on Brown ... getting him out of his home state was a long-shot, but we hung on his list.
But getting Gentle out of MS, All-State, is indeed a great get.

At this point I think Echols and Viramontes are the best bets that are still on the board. I hope we are all pleasantly surprised with another big get like Hawkins in '15

We don't have the same recruiting pull with out likens and ingram

Once Josh Drayden sends in his NLI, we will have all of our known out of staters signed

yeah, our WR class has incredible size.

Duncan, Kobayashi are 6-2
Veasy is 6-3
Laris is 6-4
Gamble is 6-5

hope they have skills too.

Spot on. I was looking at our 2015 class.... almost all of the top guys were recruited by Ingram: Carlos Strickland, Jaylin Hawkins, Semisi Uluave, Lonny Powell (may have left without his original recruiter and coach), Austin Aaron, Kanawai Noa and Trevor Howard...... losing Ingram was brutal. He made a big mistake, hopefully he learned from it and gets a second chance

When has Texas not recruited well?

If you watch the Chach video re: Cameron Goode on the CalFootball twitter feed he almost talks himself to sleep. We need a more dynamic recruiter on that side of the football. If Sonny doesn't want to part with Chach, that's all good, but let's please get the man a few sessions with Tony Robbins or another leader that can teach him some charisma. I'm all for the Stoic philosophy but come on man..... get fired up about your recruit

Yup, no OC heading into signing day was no bueno. I have to think we're going to see Likens back over Spavital.... otherwise Spav would have been announced by now (there is an outside chance that contract negotiations are taking longer than expected). I liked Likens as a WR Coach, but he has not proven himself as an OC..... this would not be a thrilling hire IMO. Here's Likens team records over the past 3 years: 1-11, 5-7 and 0-12...... sure people on this board will make excuses for him but excuses have no place in winning programs and companies

Heading into today Texas had a LOT of question marks.... they were sitting at #32 nationally. After this morning they have managed to jump to #10. Big, big, big day for coach Strong.

Sonny made a comment that it hasn't happened b/c the person of interest was finishing up recruiting for the school they are currently attached to.... I'd expect an announcement later this week.

Max Gilliam mentioned on a podcast that Sonny had communicated names of candidates to the players..... whereas Viramontes in an interview said Cal still didn't have an OC (which tells me they weren't confident enough in signing the hire or there were legal issues re: divulging the hire)..... either way it's worked against us in recruiting.

reading between the lines, if that's the case, then the person is not Spavital, since he's not attached to a school currently. but we'll see

Another thought since the agu news coming out I bet you none of these coaches have slept much

I have mentioned younger coaches on previous threads

Need a DC that full recruits and runs a position

Agreed, he's a really nice get. I expect him to shirt this year and be a big piece of our line for years to come.

I admittedly don't spend a ton of time watching film on prospects but from the little bit I've watched of him, he strikes me as a gamer. Get him in the weight room for a year and slap a redshirt on him like you say and he could end up a multi-year starter IMO.
