He was commenting on my quote of this is big time football and you bring in the best players possible. That was based on somebody questioning why we rocked the boat so to speak. What part of that is even arguable?

Huge get... he is big time... he fought a battle with another QB who left because of Webb and oh just finished 4th in the heisman race at Oklahoma! He got hurt as a true SO and the next guy in was good also! Oklahoma took the last cast off and he was a beast. This is the guy that pushed that guy off. He is legit!

Thank you Davis Webb, and congratulations on making a monumentally good choice in higher education and football.

I am having a good week. Time to go buy a lottery ticket. Go Warriors, Go Bears!

Great pick up! The more competition for the position, the better.

Exactly. If Webb doesn't start, it's probably a good thing.

Webb was the MVP of the Holiday bowl as a freshman against the #14 ranked ASU. He has all the tools and most game experience at the position. I can assure you he doesn't choose Cal without Spav telling him it's his job to lose.

Sure we all want a fair battle and there will be one, but Webb has the inside angle. Anyone who thinks otherwise has a severe case of naive-ehhh-nitus.

Goff earned the starting job in open competition ... just as Webb will have to do, as well as being much better than younger players who have been and will be here longer. Competition.

+1 It's also context. Webb onboard we just upgraded our top pair of QBs. Webb plus the best other QB on the roster upgraded us for sure at the qb position regardless of who starts. But certainly betting its Webb. I'm pumped.

Oh and this will help with recruiting QBs... the QB coming in will have an open battle rather than someone that has the job. Sears, Garbers, or Tate my best guess

Starter or backup ... that's a great scenario.
Yeah, a bit unexpected probably for those QBs in competition but competition is the name of the game at Berkeley, and Cal football now.

He made a good choice. There is incredibly good young skilled talent he will avail himself to. OMG! I ended that sentence with a preposition. Is that still wrong? I am 76. Correct grammar seems to be lacking these days.
I've added to this breakdown of proper use of the language. And, I did it on a Cal board. Sorry.

Quick thoughts:

- Funny how ESPN has a top article saying Webb "snubbed" CU but never had a word about DRob, a much higher profile recruit, who snubbed the entire SEC.

- Whether Webb starts or not, it seems his transfer just gave us more industry cred

- I would love to see the video of that tool Macintyre being given the news. I can just see him with his fists clenched crying and yelling "its not fair!"

Whatever - I have a family member that has worked with Mac, thinks very highly of him and says he's a good person. Not sure why you consider him a "tool", perhaps his overboard emotional displays, which he has had?

He got injured his Jr year and when he recovered last year, the younger guy who had started for him during his injury got the starting spot.

The outburst I remember from Mac was when his team was hosed by officiating late in a game vs. OSU - lost the game on a bad call, that doesn't make him a tool IMO, I would expect a meltdown from my coach in a similar situation. In that situation, I don't have an issue with outbursts, emotional doesn't equal tool. Tool equals assho**

I don't think the staff gives him the keys yet until he proves himself and beats out the other QB's. But with that being said.....won't be surprised to see him under center in the fall.

Given the nature of the situation, it seems the staff is planning for Webb to start. He'll have to earn it, which he very likely will.
Shaping up to be a fun season coming up.

Go Bears!!

I've seen several outbreaks like that from him. And it's not just the outbreaks, it's also some other things. For instance how he wouldn't even acknowledge that Webb was shopping around in some interview a couple weeks back as if he was this little kid that doesn't want to hear some bad news and covers his ears.

And btw tool doesn't equal assho**. You're thinking of douche. A tool is more like a fool.

What kind of surprised me given his success at San Jose State is that Cal and Colorado were essentially at the same crossroads in 2013, yet Colorado is as bad as ever and we are getting 5-star recruits and bowl wins. I think there are some institutional issues with Colorado that are killing football in Boulder, and not necessarily indicative of Mike MacIntyre's abilities.

Doesn't surprise me that much. The caliber of football players that go to a SJ state are generally not the same as the caliber that go to a P12 school (even if it's CU). Making players do things like write inspirational words and put them in a box before games may work for more humble SJ kids but not for kids that were the best in their county or state and were recruited by major schools. The P12 kids know they don't need to put up with that kind of BS and getting treated like they're 10 years old, whereas the SJ kids may either not mind or may actually appreciate that sort of thing. Just my theory.

I think the line separating Cal and Colorado is lot thinner. We beat Air Force in our single bowl game.

Compared to the academic and character "institutional issues" that Dykes inherited, not to mention increasing losses and team failure, what issues does Colorado have (or had) that could possibly have been worse?

Umm, I think famous idiots like Jenny McCarthy are more responsible for outbreaks (like the measles outbreak at Disneyland).

However, MacIntyre has been known for his outbursts...

Don't believe CU is institutionally marginalizing football, but the end of Gary Barnett's tenure was extremely ugly and brought national attention that no university wants. CU was a big swinging dick in the Big 8, a medium size fish in the Big XXII, and they've been a below average program in the PAC. Don't have a Phil Knight Sugar Daddy and probably aren't willing to do whatever it takes given the prior approach blew up on them in the not so distant past.

The Webb deal has to sting. They can't understand rubber stamping even grad school admissions and there isn't even a guaranteed starting role for Webb at lowly Cal. Mac is a good guy, but no way his QB depth chart cupboard should be as bare as it is. Generally like CU, but before this thread didn't realize they hadn't been bowling in a decade. Pretty steep fall from national champ to irrelevance with a dollop of scandal/disgrace in 25 years.
