I imagine jumping off a bridge is what you drove your ex to do, huh, Bill?

I have been hearing about his communicatiion style, or lack of communication, for several years now. The problems with ignoring people get accentuated when there are serious decisions that need to be made. The long simmering unhappiness then surfaces. Shocky's comments are right on.

Yup. I don't think most of us feel such a sense of entitlement that if our calls and emails get unanswered we immediately start calling for the AD's head. He's got a big job to do and a limited amount of time to do it. It's the reason I keep my personal communication with him to a minimum. As a consequence I've only sent him three emails since he go the job, and one of those was to just congratulate him and thank him for taking this on for Cal. I've never received a response to any of my messages. I'm actually not even sure if anyone monitors his email as I know dozens of donors who have sent him messages and never gotten a reply. I can't really wrap my head around this or understand how the department thinks this behavior is ok. There is literally no other major athletic department on the planet that would act like this.

Wow! That is shocking and troubling. There are zero professional environments that would tolerate that.

After the bullshit season ticket holders got from reps regarding the Marshawn Lynch bobbleheads and how reps compared what they were doing to Golden State Warriors promotions, pretty obvious that the entire line of communications in the AD is totally fucked.

I'm actually in favor of an AD not using a search firm. It's like hiring 2 people to do the same job. That's the job of the AD. A competent AD should know who to hire especially in the revenue sports.

Mike seems like such a pompous arrogant guy that maybe in the end not listening to us is what we need. I mean maybe he heard that the big donors favored Pasternak and if so, good for him. I hated both of his coaching decisions initially and thought they were both C+ hires at best . Now I give Wilcox an A_ and Wking a 'B' and rising. I rather a pompous A-hole who gets results than a smoocher who will continue us on the plight that we were on.
That said, you can't ignore people who donate millions. Thats just basic.
Again, the guy is just like he looks.

Usually, the purpose of a search firm in these instances is to...
a) manage the interview process and give "plausible deniability" ("I never interviewed at Cal." "Cal has never even approached me about the job." "We never offered the job to ___.")
b) perhaps uncover candidates that the AD didn't know about, or didn't know were possible candidates (the search firm might have identified Cuonzo three yrs ago... goodness knows nobody on this board did)
It would be interesting to know MW's reasoning on this. I'd email him with the question, but...
