Looks like using a 2-QB system is now a thing

Does Bama really have a 2 QB system? This past Saturday against Texas A&M, Tagovailoa had 30 pass attempts and 4 rushes (including sacks). Hurts had 3 pass attempts and 3 rushes (including sacks).

Tagovailoa seems like the guy. Hurts maybe just gets more play in games where the Tide blow out an opponent, which granted seems like most of their games, including their previous 62-7 win over Ole Miss.

Compare to McIlwain, who scored the final TD and then iced the nail-biter at the end @BYU.

Edited to add: not criticizing (or praising) the 2 QB system here. I like both Garbers and McIlwain for Cal, assuming they continue to improve as you'd expect inexperienced players to do.

I don't have any problem with the current system until it stops working. If it ain't broke, something, something.

I am not so sure about that.
My usual preference would be to stick with one QB.
If the two QBs were Garbers and Bowers I would totally agree with your comments.

But Garbers and Mac are so similar in their style of play and the play calls that would be made that I think that swapping QBs would not require a change in the style of play by the rest of the team or a major change in the plays being called.

In fact swapping QBs would work to keep each of the QBs fresh and less likely to be injured. If either were the sole starter for the entire season I would expect the starter to be really beaten up by game #10 or #11. Remover both QBs are still pretty young. We are dealing with a Davis Webb.

From play to play, other players rotate in and out regularly. Why aren't these players afforded the chance to "get into a groove"?

Kelly Bryant is leaving Clemson a few days after losing his portion of the starting job. There's no way of being being fair and being serious about winning. It's one or the other.

If y'all got two QBs then ya don' have a QB. Tha's Fuhball 3:16!

i just read this news. crazy that a starting senior qb that was 16-2 last year and 4-0 this year, lost the starting role to a true frosh.

is kelly injuried? otherwise this is unheard of.

The QB has more things to do and be aware of. From relaying the play, making sure everyone is lined up correctly, surveying the defense, the snap count, receiving the snap, knowing where pressure has been coming from....throwing itself is something that one "gets into a rhythm" doing (shooting a basketball is another). Also, by not subbing, you prevent the defense from subbing, you can follow-up a successful play with a play that takes advantage of a defense that is now on its heels, with a weekness exposed.

It was also 'heard' at Alabama. Not so crazy. Some of these QBs are average guys playing on great teams. Then said great team gets a great freshman QB, see Bama. There is a big difference between the two qbs even if the upperclassman has a great record.

In may be unheard of but sunshine looks really good for a freshman....
