That's because they didn't want to have the 16 TCU fans watching the game to think their feed was switched to watching Fox News coverage of a migrant caravan invading America. Our cheer team has one big difference than theirs, and that is some significant color (which is good in my opinion).

I had a feeling that article would come out. Ole Miss has a somewhat liberal administration and faculty and has gone through the introspection that TCU has not, and has made changes to the culture. There is no denying the student body is relatively conservative for a state university, but it is a conservative state. Here is just one article of many articles about changes:okaydo said:wifeisafurd said:Everyone in Mississippi views the folks in Oxford as knee jerking liberals. The question was in relation to the Left wing paranoia and and hatred presented in a hysterical way. I hoped that Cal was not going the way of the majority of colleges in America, which have begun to limit and shut down free speech, providing safe spaces for students, and limiting or eliminating debate. And I hoped that Cal graduates would present political views in a forum for debate, not just go all hysterical about them. The Free Speech Movement at Cal in the 1960s was founded and run by mostly Leftists (of which I was one), to open up the forum for discourse at Cal, not to shut it down. Unfortunately, the Left is now in charge on most college campuses, and debate has been limited. Not long ago we saw the University disinviting Conservative pundits Ann Coulter and Ben Shapiro, in the face of threatened and real violence from the Left wing Antifa group, I believe. At the same time they did follow through with inviting Conservative Dennis Prager, who is more intellectual, and maybe a gentler person, and less threatening, and he had a reasonable debate with students on the Cal campus, or so I am told. That is the way it should be done, if the country is not to go down in flames.dajo9 said:Wow. A spelling error on a message board and you question somebody's degree. Lighten up, son. Helltopay1 did grossly belittle the support of Ocassio-=Cortez. I don't like a thread begun in fun turning political (what else, I guess - this is Berkeley) but to overreact with a lot of hysterical derogatory comments based on unprovable (so far) assertions is not the way to win an argument. If you want to convince anyone of the truth and/or sincerity of your convictions, hysteria and personal attacks whether it is against one of us or against the President, then just present the facts or your theory in a way that doesn't offend us, and we can discuss or debate them.Another Bear said:Why does it disappoint you, because you're old and don't get mockery? I apologize for any offense. I explained what I meant in my post. I could have chosen better words. And with all due respect, so could you. If you want to debate the ideas of Ocasio-Cortez in a polite reasonable and constructive way, I'd be happy to do so, and I'd look forward to it. And I won't hold your youth against you. (Just kidding) And I congratulate you on getting a degree from Cal. In the end that will be a hell of a lot more important to you than any political feelings you might have, in terms of your own success in life.
Well, son, I hate to break it to you, but girls in my day at Cal, except for perhaps the sorority types, were not by and large going to college in order to meet boys, and while most probably expected to marry one day, there was a whole lot of intellectual curiosity going on in the minds of those co-eds. The coffeehouses of Berkeley and the campus cafeteria were not a place where the girls looking for a husband hung out, and there were plenty of girls hanging out in them, and while there they discussed political ideas, other cultures, music, art, writing, and reading. The girls I went to school with joined the Peace Corps, and marched in the streets for a variety of political causes, one of which was women's rights. The difference today is that women are doing some of the jobs that were exclusively done by men, and women are seeking the knowledge and degrees that will lead to those jobs. Women have always had the thirst for knowledge. They just didn't have enough opportunity in my day to use that knowledge and talent in the workforce.01Bear said:SFCityBear said:I guess I missed out in my time at Cal. I never really appreciated the inner beauty of the girls of the Free Speech Movement in the 1960s. Scraggly hair, braless, no makeup whatsoever, plenty of body hair, shower once in a while, and a copy of Mao's Little Red Book in their pocket. Fortunately, they were not the only girls on campus.blungld said:

Maybe if our teams and athletes were better, the girls who are attracted to them would come to Cal.
SFCityBear, I hate to break it to you, but girls now attend school not just to meet boys. In fact, it wouldn't be surprising to find out that most Cal coeds actually attend Cal primarily to develop their minds in the pursuit of higher education, with developing skills for the job market as a close second. In fact, even during my college days, my female classmates were more interested in earning a B.A./B.S. than a Mrs.
Maybe things were different in your time. Maybe they weren't. Either way, to insinuate that girls now attend college (especially Cal!) to meet guys is misguided (if not downright sexist).
I was accepted to #8 but went to a CC instead when the baseball scholarship fell through. Ended up at Cal. Funny sometimes how our life journey takes a circuitous and unexpected route. #gobearswifeisafurd said:okaydo said:

My question about the word "consituationsl" was a genuine one. It wasn't a simple spelling error. It seemed like a blending together of parts of two words, "Con stitutiona l" and" situations". I figured it was due to his mindset at the time, which was, with all due respect, a little hysterical.
The debate on campuses, including Cal, is not limited. That's a red herring. The actual numbers of suppressive incidents are less than marginal; and nearly half of those involve suppression of liberal speech.SFCityBear said:The question was in relation to the Left wing paranoia and and hatred presented in a hysterical way.
