Some people are conflating multiple issues and failing to acknowledge that there are several issues occurring on offense.
1. Talent
Fixing this issue would fix any other issues.
The offensive coaching decisions deserve to be second guessed, but there are no coaches in CFB brilliant enough to win 10 games with subpar RB play and D-minus QB play.
Tell that to USC, Todd Bozeman, Sonny Dykes, and Tom Holmoe. I think quality coaching and schemes matter immensely. Nobody disputes that we could use more talent but we also need better coaching. The concern with Baldwin, Tui & Edwards is that relative to the talent that we possess they underachieved in a multitude of ways. They took a group of high character, hard working but not optimally skilled individuals and delivered something that was less than the sum of its parts (even accounting for injuries IMO). Many (most?) of us believe that issues like poor player development, scheme, play calling, and substitutions (or the lack thereof) represent a significant factor in the subpar play that you referenced.
Talent deficiencies are
definitely a factor but I don't think acquiring more talent will solve our other problems. And from a timing perspective taking a significant step forward in talent will be challenging until we demonstrate positive changes with the coaching staff. Would you encourage your kid to play for Baldwin, Tui or Edwards?
