More like this...

p.s. the old SNL skit with Da Bears and Da Bulls...grossly understated from what I can tell. I'm serious.

Looking for recommendations on local eats in Chicago...

Best deep dish?

Italian beef?

Chicago dog?

Greek, Italian, other?
Best Deep Dish: Lou's
Italian Beef: Al's, make sure you get it wet. I also like to order a side of chili fries.
Chicago Dog: My favorite spot was UB Dog in the loop. The Joey Dog is also delicious.
Gyros: Any place that makes gyros with kronos beef really.
frozen custard: Scooters

Apples to oranges. I know lots of people go ga-ga over Zachary's. I used to like it and then I just sort of decided I didn't care for it that much anymore.

I like Pizza Rustica's take-out operation in Montclair. I like their toppings choices. I like the way you can get 3-4 different "personal size" pizzas, bring 'em home and please everybody. I'm having some leftover margherita slices right now. They're good. Not "award winning", but fulfills our current desires.

To each his own.

LMAO... they are one of the better chain pizza. I go there for lunch once a month.

For East Bay, Cheeseboard, Sliver (aka Cheeseboard copy cat), Blondies (on Telegraph) are my fav.

How many pizza threads have we had here over the years? Some folks love Zachary's as good Chi-style pizza; others do not. I've never even been to Chicago, so I'm claiming zero expertise on the subject, only that I've been to the Rockridge Zachary's a number of times and I'd go again, but I am not at all eager to.

Lou Malnati's is great; Geno's EAst is pretty good as well. Say no to Pizzeria Uno

Thanks Guys, some great comments and great suggestions. Like I said its been 30+ years living here in Idaho and if you ever travel through Boise stop by Flying Pie, their Habanero Pizza was featured on "Man vs.Food" I suggest the one on Fairview.

If we're lamenting older east of Caldecott establishments, the original Freddie's Pizza in Lafayette was pretty awesome. Loved getting a Tootsie Roll on the way out. That takeout seafood place nearby to Freddie's, where you could drive up and buy crab, was also great. God I'm old...

Standard order for me and a friend at LaVal's when I was in college:
Large pizza and 3 pitchers. My capacity now is two slices and two pints.

An ex-girlfriend who I dated after college loved telling this story. She was slim, muscular legs, small waist and Very Well Endowed. She had a t-shirt from her ex HS love who had played HS football. The tight shirt read "1,000 Pound Club" across the chest.

She walked into LaVal's and a guy at a table asked, "Is that for the pair, or just one?"

10 cent beer? Was this in the 20's we use to have 50 cent pitcher night at ISU in Pocatello. Beer never tasted so good!

The late 80s. 10 cent beer/dollar pitcher. We would just stand there with a pitcher in one hand and a glass in the other. I think it died around that time period. Not sure when it started.

I moved to The Creek in the late 80s. Kids still cruising on Friday & Saturday night downtown!

Crogans.
Ugly movie theater.
The first, tiny Prima.
Brick yogurt place.
Pinkys.
Abernathys.
One Mexican place downtown.
CC Ole's in Concord!
Copper skillet; then Hubcaps.
Apartment complex pools packed on the weekend - now EMPTY - people older, working 6 days a week, on the Internet, out of shape.

I've had Lou's and Geno's in Chicago. They're both very good. I like Zach's, too, but they're a little tomato heavy for me. Paxti's is good, too. I like Little Star best for deep dish because of the corn meal crust.

Blondie's has changed ownership and has been Abe's for a couple years. They were never more than a volume/low price option like Fat Slice, though, not for flavor. And I'm baffled by the Mountain Mike's comments unless it's trolling. We have one in town and they're in business because they're the cheapest of the four pizza places in town, not because pizza connoisseurs love them.

Arinell is the best consistent long term. Been going there for 35 years at least weekly. Slicer is good on Piedmont avenue near Pleasant Valley - Nicks pizza on Shattuck is also very good.

Gonna have to try Arinell. I have lived in or visited Berkeley for just about 35 years and I have never been there (or seen it). It must be tiny because I was walking on that stretch of Shattuck a couple of weeks ago and don't remember seeing it.

What do folks think about the pizza place on the South side of University between (I think) Milvia and Shattuck. Might be near the movie theatre? Bobby something's? Walked by it the other day and remembered reading about it but can't recall if it's good or bad.

Not a math major, huh? There are roughly 4.5 14-oz beers in a pitcher. You were getting ripped off paying $1 for a pitcher when beers were just $0.10.

Me and a buddy bought the POS house at 911 Homestead, WC in 1982 for $137,000 (built 1948). We sold it in 1984 for $147,000. That piece of crap sold for $1.2 million a couple of years ago.

Crogran's closed a couple of years ago after one patron murdered another patron on the sidewalk at closing time in front of scores of witnesses.

Wow a murder in WC! What the hell happen to the Creek. In the late 70's my brother and I would ride our bikes downtown on Sunday and almost all the stores would be closed. We recently went back and now their are lamborghinis, Ferraris up and down the streets of the "Rodeo Drive" of the NorCal. Just waiting for the next episode of "Wives of Walnut Creek" to air.

It's really just what happened to Crogans. It morphed from restaurant to bar and things were getting rowdy in there. The cops were cracking down on the owners and then the final straw came.

Paxti's in Livermore.

Good pizza, deep dish, and connection to Cal football since the tables are made from the benches removed from Memorial Stadium.

Not sure of the size but I would bet they were closer to 8-10 oz. And you need to factor in the major PITA it was to wait in line to get more beer.

It was a WC problem, not just a Crogan's problem. A murder every other year now. When the WC nightlife became well known, hot even, people started driving in from Antioch, San Jose, Fairfield, etc., and young men from Oakland took BART. WC put a hold on new liquor licenses, and there was also a famous beating uploaded to Youtube where police were so overwhelmed with current calls, there weren't enough officers to cover fight / problem number 4 or 5. Cal alum Johnny Methany / Johnny Love also opened a place in the Creek, poor location and only 1 urinal and 1 toilet. He had problems and so did WC police who were sued for profiling? I drove through downtown once after that period, and counted 6, 7, or more police cars. Not sure the current status.

The Rooftop place sounds cool. I miss La Virage and the drinks they would light on fire.
