This is one of the weirdest topics ever to have lasted this long without being moved to the "Who Gives A Flying _ _ _ k" Board.

Herschel Walker, one of the greatest athletes ever and still ripped, eats one meal a day, skipping breakfast and lunch, 2000 calories, 100g protein high in carbs

The Wilner article probably sheds light on Wilcox's lean figure. He went for an hour hike contemplating the biggest decision of his life. Most people, when stressed, eat. When Wilcox faces stressful times in life, he walks.

Hakeem Olajuwon won a pair of NBA championships while fasting throughout Ramadan.

Granted this could all be placebo, not a bad performance placebo I suppose.

Totally forgot Hakeem did that. What a savage.

Finally checked this thread again, wow.

Intermittent fasting here. I've always been thin, so the motivation was not weight loss. Not low on funds either. It has been a gradual experimentation of sorts...

I sleep 6 hours, or four 1.5 hour cycles. I'm asleep at/around midnight, up naturally at 6am. Have not used an alarm in decades, minus unique events like having to catch a very early flight.

Around 10am I'll have some yogurt. In the afternoon typically some fruit, most often a fruit/veggie concoction (think Vitamix/Blendtec machine). At night, I eat like a horse, anything, including meat, no limits. Most who know me believe I'm a carnivore, lol.

Game days in Berkeley, I make exceptions, with the big meal being the tailgate. Have biz travel next week, and the big meals at night works great with team dinners, beer, etc.

I have the usual 8am hunger pangs, right now actually. A couple sips of water, all is good.

I'm jealous of your ability to wake up at 6am no alarm.

I don't have hunger pains anymore in the morning, only if I drank and ate late the night before (rare). I've gotten pretty used to not having to eat until 12pm-2pm. I drink a lot of sparkling water in the morning and some coffee until lunch.

My hunger pains come at night. I'll be fine all day, satisfied at 8pm after dinner, and like clock work I get the munchies 10pm-12pm.

Can one of the BI reporters ask Wilcox if he IFs? lmao

Having practiced IF myself for a few years it is interesting to find out the relationship between IF, body weight, waist size and sense of well being (energy level).

I'll summarize this way:

The body is extremely complicated and intricate and, although I have tracked things carefully so I can improve my health, I am still very confused about a few things and I know that being thin or looking fit is not necessarily a sign of any sort of health/wellness practice. Here are some specifics:

  • I have gained weight while fasting because water weighs about as much as anything. I have also lost weight after eating a heavy meal because it helped me eliminate a bunch of water.
  • If you are retaining water and gas (air) your waist size will expand and you will look fatter than folks that just overate.
  • I have eaten poorly and felt better and I have been super disciplined and felt worse.
  • I have followed an alkaline diet by eating fruit, but fruit acts as an acid in your mouth, causing dental problems on a scale similar to other acids like sugar and coffee.
  • If you are doing caffeine you can mask the fact that your body is worn out by poor food combining and other digestively challenging diets.
In other words outer appearances and symptoms can be perplexingly inconsistent with actual health practices, making it totally confusing to understand what is really helping and what is hurting. Thin people who eat a great deal without gaining weight are envied but their health issues are much worse because they aren't absorbing nutrients properly and that is much harder to treat than obesity.

It takes a long time and a lot of motivation to get to know ones own body enough to be able to fully care for it through diet, exercise, sleep and lifestyle. I am just beginning the quest.

Good for you GBear4Life! It can be tough. I've come to feel or learn that eating as a pastime, as a reflexive response to sitting down even, eating until one is "full", can produce unhealthy results. I've never been over 150 lbs in my life, so it's not an overweight type of thing, for me at least.

I've had family members live well into their 90s, I think 96 is the recent high. Others in the family I never knew exceeded the century mark. I'd like to do the same, if for no other reason to see more Cal Rose Bowls and national championships! Wishful thinking on a Friday...

I'm just accustomed to 6 hours, so it really depends when I sleep. I prefer midnight. I get some quiet time at night with the rest of the family in bed, notably the kids, and waking-up at 6 is great to get a start on my day, whether it be work/employer-related or personal. I'm also a pretty avid investor, and I like being awake before the market open (6:30 am PT)...

I'm ready to "graduate" to 16 hour fasting tomorrow. Will do the 1 to 9pm chow window, starting today/tonight eating after dinner, by 9pm, then no food the last 3 hours (bed at midnight). I have not been eating past 6:30 to 7pm, so going to 9pm should help come the morning, I would think. We'll see... I can basically eat shortly after the Cal game ends tomorrow.

Not sure I'd want to ask JW such a question, at least not with a mic in his face. Maybe such weight loss could be due to other reasons, possibly medical-related. I would hope not, but it can be somewhat of a personal question. I'm more curious about the 30 year old ride!

The primary benefit of IF is not weight loss but the upregulation of autophagy, the recycling of senescent and disease promoting cells, cell organs, and dysfunctional proteins and protein aggregates. The accumulation of this accelerates aging and disease. We won't live forever but no harm in trying to optimize your wellness before your croak. Exercise also promotes this however this concept isn't controversial and viewed as new age bull poop.

Matt Luke should consider intermittent fasting. Just try it for like 6 months and see the results.

Alex Morgan doesn't IF

https://stylecaster.com/beauty/alex-morgan-food-fitness-diary/
Quote:

For breakfast I have: Chobani yogurt with some toppings like fruit or granola, or maybe some agave. If I'm not training, I usually make a smoothie with fruit and yogurt. I usually eat at around 8 a.m.

For lunch I have: I normally have a salad or a sandwich with some fruit, and chicken or lean meat. Or again, I might have a smoothie. I eat anytime after training, as soon as I'm done, which is usually around 12 p.m. or 1 p.m.

My go-to smoothie recipe includes: Fruit like berries, bananas, and spinach, yogurt, sometimes granola, agave or some honey, and either water or apple juice. And I like to put chia seed and hemp seed in it too.
Today I snacked on: Some fruit, and sometimes I carry with my nuts, or like Chobani yogurt, maybe one of their flip yogurts because they're a good source of energy and have a good amount of protein.

Alex Morgan surely works out like crazy and has no need for calorie restriction.
GBear4Life
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Don't necessarily need to be on a "calorie restriction" to do IF. But I mean, everybody has a caloric ceiling that, if exceeded regularly, will gain weight.
