ok, I'm kicking this one off early.

First of all, Memphis is Bear Territory. There are Cal fans everywhere. I haven't seen this kind of turn out for us since . . . well since ever.

Here's the Memorial Glade at Graceland. See if you can count the Cal fans in the picture.

I'm going to venture a guess of... ALL of them are Cal fans?

Little known fact; Elvis was a huge Cal fan. No other way to explain this room (which I am replicating by the way as soon as I get home).

It's like "Where's Waldo?" out here. Except everyone is Waldo

Is that a statue of baby Oski on the coffee table?

Team had Chick-fil-A snacks for the plane on the the way out. Very politically incorrect, but damn that's a fine tasting chicken sandwich.

The team flew out on Thursday to acclimate early to the South; why not start with the on-board meal.

+1 on the fine tasting sandwich.

Politics aside, there's nothing special about Chick Fil A. I don't get it.

I follow the team photographer, and I could've sworn he took a photo of them with the option of Popeyes or Chik Fil A. (Unfortunately, he posted it to Instastories, which deletes after 24 hours, so I can't check.)

I think a big reason there are so many Cal fans is because going to Mississippi is like an exotic excursion for many of us Californians. It's not just flying to Oregon, Arizona, etc. to see the game and have a few meals. To me at least, it sounds more interesting and off the radar than many international destinations. Jealous of you folks that made the trip. If it wasn't for a very pregnant wife at home, I wouldn't have missed it.

That's why I like these type of games. Not enough of them, i.e. two P5 schools from different parts of the country playing each other. It really gives the fan bases good excuses to travel. Just like the Cal/UNC series which I enjoyed.

We're seeing something similar here in ATL this weekend with all the Notre Dame fans in town for the UGA game.

People who won't let you enjoy fast food of your choice don't deserve to eat Chick-fil-A. We had Chuck-fil-A for dinner last night on the drive from Nashville and loved it. And some colleges want to ban them-what happened to person opinion and choice?

The BCS playoffs needs to just be P5 league champions, with no beauty contest votes except for the 3 at large spots for champions from the other leagues. Then teams can schedule challenging road trips and great OOC matchups with no fear that a loss derails their season.

Agreed, unless the ones they opened in California are different. If I am in Memphis or Mississippi, I am not wasting a meal on meh fast food I can get at home.

Nashville style hot chicken has spread over the region and is almost as good the Korean fried chicken places here (KFC even tried to come out with their own version). Same idea, lots chili oil cooked into the batter of really crispy chicken.

You, as an individual, have the right to eat anywhere you want. That is ok. However, because Chick-fil-a supports causes that are discriminatory, public schools should not support them by permitting the purchase of their products by departments within the school. It is really that simple. And, no, I have never eaten at Chick-fil-a and have no intention of ever doing so.

A reminder of our trip to TN. I never saw so many Cal fans at a far-away roadie. It must be the SEC......

I don't get the Chic-Fil-A love. When they came to California I tried the FCS and thought...this is fried chicken? It was limp, greasy and horrible. I can only surmise it's something you grow up with, like Jack in the Box tacos.

Absurd. Public schools don't check all their vendors to see if the owners or shareholders or corporate executives support causes that some subsets of the population would call discriminatory. That would be an onerous test. Also why stop at public schools? What if all state and federal purchasers refused to buy any products which all or in any part derived from countries that say declare homosexuality is illegal or countries that practice religious or gender discrimination? How about corporations whose products are produced in any part through child labor or even slave labor?

No one had to check because the Chick-Fil-A people made their policy and politics known, repeatedly.

Look, California's own In'n Out has a bible verse on their cups. Frankly who cares...they back up their Chrisian faith by paying their employees a living wage and they've been doing this way before it became an issue. In 'n Out just doesn't make this stuff an issue or try to leverage it.o

My main objection however remains the quality of the food.

I'm determined to try the following: if someone posts something that goes against my politics, I JUST IGNORE THEM instead of hijacking the thread. Why? Because the "gain" from defending my politics is actually smaller than the "loss" that comes from polluting the board with repetitive tedious crap nobody wants to read, which may eventually result in its demise.

Call it the "Marty McFly" rule. Which most of you will ignore, but that's cool.

Back on topic: I tried Jollibee in SF in 2007 and it gave me all kinds of indigestion, although that may have been due to Cal football's swan-dive. Never again.

There use to be a Jollybee at 4th and Howard near Moscone. I tried it...once. That's all I got.

Pollo Campero, a Guatemalan chain, is suppose to be worth trying.

Hmmm... Sounds kinda like what happened in Germany in the late 1930's. Ignoring injustice is accepting injustice.

Oh good Lord. I think it's safe to say not engaging in the same tired, repetitive, unproductive, self-serving flamewars that everyone ignores, in every single Internet forum it comes up, does NOT equate to what people in Nazi Germany did multiple generations ago.

"Don't you dare talk smack about Popeyes!"

I was watching the Weather Channel a few weeks back during a storm hitting the South (it fizzled). One of the reporters was on the street and asked a woman if the churches were open:

"I don't know," she says, "I only eat at Popeyes."

Classic true story.
