"Latinos slightly eclipsed Asian Americans for the first time, making up 36% of the 79,953 California students offered admission. Asians made up 35%, whites 21% and Black students 5%. The rest were American Indians, Pacific Islanders or those who declined to state their race or ethnicity. About 44% of admitted students were low-income while 45% were the first in their families to attend a four-year university."

"White privilege" has always been a lie. In United Steelworkers v Weber (1979) 443 U.S. 193 the U. S. Supreme Court held that the fair employment provisions of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 did not protect white people. I simply postulate that if it is legal to discriminate against you then you are not privileged.
I would add that I think that the admissions office is lying when they claim not to consider race.
Not to worry, since the repeal of Prop 209 is very likely to pass in November, the University will be able to, once again, use race as a determining factor when making admissions decisions.MugsVanSant said:

Obviously a very bias acceptance by UC

None of that means what you think it does.

How so? Whites make up 37% of the state's population yet only half that percentage at 19% were admitted. Blacks make up 6% of the state's population and 5% were admitted. And I'd be willing to bet good money that a far higher percentage of black applicants who applied were admitted than the percentage of white applicants.edg64 said:Why only 5% Blackncbears said:Latinos are the largest group admitted in the UC System - not admitted to Cal.golden sloth said:Is it me, or does the asian population at 42% and the latin population at 29% not quite align with the caption of Latinos being the largest group admitted?NYCGOBEARS said:

Subject to constitutional limits, so a factor, not a determining factor.71Bear said:Not to worry, since the repeal of Prop 209 is very likely to pass in November, the University will be able to, once again, use race as a determining factor when making admissions decisions.MugsVanSant said:

LOL, whites are now an under-represented minority! Maybe, down the road, my kids will get into Cal via affirmative action
Asian Americans acceptance is 2.3x higher than their population %, but you choose to focus your fragility and ire on African Americans who only make up only 5% of admits, which is below their % of state population. Your anti-Blackness is showing.bearlyamazing said:How so? Whites make up 37% of the state's population yet only half that percentage at 19% were admitted. Universities may make use a "race-conscious admissions policy" per a 2016 Supreme Court ruling in the Fisher v. University of Texas case (2016). In essence. this case affirmed the ruling in the landmark Grutter v. Bollinger decision (2003) that permits "race-conscious admissions policy" as long as explicit quotas are not involved.wifeisafurd said:Subject to constitutional limits, so a factor, not a determining factor.71Bear said:Not to worry, since the repeal of Prop 209 is very likely to pass in November, the University will be able to, once again, use race as a determining factor when making admissions decisions.MugsVanSant said:

Going another direction, that the student body looks a lot more like the population and the composition of the legislature hopefully means greater financial support from the State.
Won't someone think of the underrepresented white people? Literally the least self-aware post I've ever seen on BI.MugsVanSant said:
Under the current regime UCLA has overtaken Cal in SAT scores. I hope that people stop donating money until white kids are treated fairly. If white people do not stand up for their own rights and interests who will? There is a vehicular caravan planned for Dublin and Pleasanton against Proposition 16 today. Apparently there are some who are willing to act.
