It's astonishing that they can pull this off on such short notice. Not sure there has ever been a roller coaster of a week like this for Cal football.

It'll be really interesting to see if having (checks notes) 1 day to watch film and prep for a game will have a big impact on the quality of play. I would imagine there are lots of busted coverages and long TDs on Sunday but maybe the offenses will struggle with no time to prepare.

After seeing Colorado put up so many points on them, we have to like our chances even with the last minute scrambling!

1 game is a very small sample size, plus it's been a calendar year, but in game terms we just played them and they did not change a whole lot from the previous matchup, so for a lot of guys prep may not be too difficult.

if the conferences ends up playing schedule roulette each week it'll be interesting to see the impact on quality of play. If there's no drop then maybe everyone's been spending too much time doing opponent specific prep.

It works because Cal was primed to travel to ASU and UCLA was prepared to host a game, right?

That plus a short trip makes it doable.

At least I think that's probably why.

I'm just kind of mentally preparing for this season to be one that doesn't really mean very much. Like, how can you even judge the team's performance?

Can we skip forward to the point where people criticize the city of berkeley for ruining their lives and begin advocating unethical behavior? Not sure if it ends with sovereign citizens storming city hall or calls for bribery but feels like we were robbed of the chance to find out.

Good news for the team who are going to grow up much more mature than I did as a football player!! One plus? We have recent Ucla game film (last week) and they don't have any of us. I think our offense will go, only hope the DL can get it together. When I first found out about the game, I blanked out, phoned my son, and said "Let's go to the Rose Bowl Sunday morning early!" 2020 never ceases to amaze! Go Bears!!

On the other hand, UCLA's defense gave up 48 points to a CU offense that averaged only half that many points per game last season, so UCLA's defense can't get much worse even with the lack of team-specific prep.

In contrast, our Bears count on a good defense, and that defense might not be as prepared given the last-minute opponent switch and the minimal amount of practice.

We'll see how it goes, bright and early on Sunday morning.

Yes

The lack of preparation for the specific opponent is really interesting. Scouting and preparing for the opponent is such a big part of football. Obviously, there is no advantage here, as both teams just learned of their opponent with two days notice. Should be interesting (pending further Covid developments for both teams).

All this said, I'm happy that both teams and the P12 have been nimble enough to go with this alternative.

Are you sure you want to know what it took to get the COB to back off? Think of this like sausage, looking ugly in process, but a good tasting result.
