This guy's name is harder to spell than Saulius Kuzminskas.

Karnowski looks big, ugly, white, and Polish. Like a good, solid Montgomery type of big man in the mold of David Harbour, Andy Poppink, Mark Seaton, and Pete Sauer. I like it.

I like what he did to a good Croatia team, too.

Montgomery takes offseason trips to other colleges to pick the brains of successful coaches and learn things that good programs do. I believe he went to Wisconsin-Green Bay this last offseason. He learned about the value of recruiting guys named "Something-ski" and the "heavy screen".

Cal's still in the mix with Karnowski, though he won't get serious till his season's over in the next week or two.

They'd love to have him.

I think he could really change the arc of our basketball program. A front line rotation of Karnowski, Solomon, Kravish, Behrens, Rodriguez and Thurman would be pretty good, don't you think? Sorry, Bak is a great kid but he shouldn't play more than 1-2 minutes per game (unless something magically clicks this summer).

We had the Israeli Flash (Tamir), I hope we can get the Polish Rifle (with all due respect to Ron Jaworski).

Ditto. A big kid with skills enough to demand a double team would be a HUGE factor in taking things to the next level with the current pipeline (and possible pipeline with a J. Bird)

Karnowski would be a great addition, a very big man (in 2011 he measured 6'11.25 w/o shoes, and 279lb) and reportedly good skills. If we do get him it would create an interesting lineup question, do you start him alongside Solomon?

Wow if we did that would be a huge team (with Crabbe at the 3, Kreklow at the 2 and Cobbs at the 1). Lots of length. Please let's get him LOL!!! Even better would be Upshaw.

Solo can play the "2" just as he has always wanted.

I doubt Kravish will not be starting in any of the next 3 years.

I think Kravish will likely start but he isn't going to be a good defender at the 3 spot and you lose shooting range if its Kravish instead of Kreklow or Crabbe. If Karnowski came in with a good offensive game I think you start him at the 5 with Solomon at the 4 and Kravish plays a lot as the first post sub.

If Richard beats out David for a starting position at the 4, I will be surprised. I am betting that Kravish will continue to improve, beyond what is normal and what is expected. He is intelligent, focused, and dedicated. He will also be larger than he was this past year.

So for Solomon to wrest the starting position--all this assuming Karnowski comes to Cal and gives the team a real center--will be great, as it will mean that Richard will have improved since last season more than he has at any other earlier interval.

Oh I think Solo starts over Karnowksi but I think he (Karn) is a FAR better option as the first off the bench as a big giving us a rotation of David, Solo and Karnowski to share those 80 minutes at the 4 and 5. Plus, and this is just the joys of the Pac-12, you gotta HAVE those bodies because they call SO MANY fouls on the interior. Indeed, I think that Robert's minutes won't go down THAT much if we add a good center.

We will be young next year but that isn't bad. But what we need to be anything other than middling is a CENTER.

Perhaps Monty can get Top Dog to name the Polish or some other designer wiener after him to seal the deal.

Kravish needs to start. Cobbs - Kreklow - Crabbe - Kravish - Karnowski start for Cal in the all-alliteration lineup.

Sorry Richard. Change your name to Kolomon and we'll talk.

I know we're all getting excited about the potential, but has anyone actually heard what Karnowski's plans are? Or what his list is? Or who else might be in contention? Gonzaga seems awfully sure that he likes them.

The Bench guys posted that they heard he is making an official in early May and will announce sometime in shortly after that.

Eliarki (sp?) is still being recruited pretty hard, too. He's @6-11.

Karnowski will likely visit in May. Don't see him deciding before he takes some visits.

Upshaw's maybe not as big a longshot as one might think, too. His commitment and decommitment from KSU supposedly made him and his family want him to stick closer to home but we'll see how that works out.

Regardless, there will only be one big, if that.

Any word on who else is recruiting Sami Eleraky?

Gonzaga just had PF Ryan Spangler transfer out and are waiting to see if Elias Harris bounces for the pros. I'm guessing they're still in it for Karnowski.

So, if say, Karnowski commits, we'd say no to Upshaw? I'm not doubting your last line there, but I think we'd take two bigs if the right situation presented itself.

I doubt Upshaw would continue to consider Cal if we took Karnowski. Plus, we would be committing scholarships to Solomon, Kravish, Bak, Behrens, Thurman, Rodriguez, and then 2 recruits. Wouldn't make sense to have 8 bigs on scholarships.
MoragaBear

Well, if Karnowski committed first, I have to believe they'd make room for Upshaw.

I don't think it would work the same for him or Elaraki in reverse if Upshaw were first, though.

There's been no decision on whether or not Thurman's scholarship will be renewed so there's flexibility there. They have till almost September to decide. He didn't get his '11-'12 scholarship till September this season.

Gotchya. Any players were focusing on outside of Upshaw, Eleraky, Karnowski, and Johnson? If we strike out on Johnson, I hope we have another option for a wing to bring in. Is Woolridge a real option? (Wouldn't he have to get into grad school on his own?)

It was supposed to be a compliment. Kind of like calling an NFL offensive lineman or defensive lineman "ugly." It's supposed to connote meanness and toughness, in my mind. I like my big post players in basketball to be big, ugly, and angry. Like the scowl on MSF's face in that game against Kansas. Like Nick VDL knocking Dan Gadzuric out cold. Good stuff.

But, yes, I am attractive. I totally would have sex with me. You probably would, too, but unless you're hot and slutty, I'd probably decline.

Here's a video from November. Whether it's him or Upshaw, I can't see how either one doesn't eventually end up starting as they are upgrades and are true centers.

You would decline if someone were extremely attractive but not promiscuous? You need to reassess your priorities, young man.

Can you imagine Monty with Przemysław Karnowski for two years? He'd build his entire offense around this guy, and it would really open up everything for us.

Does he have a twin??? You know Monty is good at working with two 7 foot twins!

Well if we landed Upshaw that would be a nice tandem.

The moderator on the Zags board is saying Few and an assistant are on a plane to Poland with an LOI in hand and that he's a done deal for the Zags. You'd have to think their success and connections with international guys (Turiaf, Harris, Batista, Pangos, etc.) helps them a ton here.
