I was at that 1986 fUCLA game, I was a student then and went to every game that season. It was a very exciting turnaround season after quite a few losing seasons and that game was the big turning point. We stormed the floor when it was over and very few left the building for a long time watching the players cut down the nets and celebrating. Years later I had a chance to meet and chat with Kevin Johnson and told him that it was maybe my most memorable sports moment ever that I was in attendance.
Another play I fondly remember, although not meaningful as far as outcome was a Jason Kidd to Lamond Murray alley-oop for a dunk when we were beating fUCLA by 20 points at their house.

Several of my favorite plays have already been mentioned in this thread, but one of the most memorable games I saw was Cal's five overtime win against Oregon in 1977. It seemed that regulation and each overtime ended with some sort of heart-stopping play. Gene Ransom played 63.5 minutes and scored 36 points and this was before introduction of the 3 point basket.

The most exciting players I watched play for Cal were Gene Ransom, Kevin Johnson and Jason Kidd.

Harmon was an extremely hostile gym for visiting teams with the fans literally in the faces of the visiting players - some of the Cal fans, including some of my friends, were pretty harsh in the stuff they'd yell at opposing players. At one point when I was sitting with friends in the second row at Harmon one of the Oregon players turned to my friend and said, "you guys have no class". I have to say that I kind of agreed with that player.

George Ashley was the Cal player on the bench who was captured right after Murray sank his final free throws to ice the game, releasing the emotion and joy of every Cal fan in the world. He was then captured in CBS' One Shining Moment montage at 1:08 here (but watch the whole thing as I think Cal got 3-4 clips in this video!)

You can watch Murray's free throws and Ashley here at the 1:22:45 mark. What a game!

Man, that was great!

I remember freshman Kevin Singleton coming in late in the overtimes when people were fouling out. The first thing he did was take (and make) a long shot which would be a three today. Oregon star Ron Lee looked at him like: you took that shot?!

Accurate and good story in general, but I'm pretty sure the great Ron Lee's last season with the Ducks was '75-'76. Maybe it was Greg Ballard, who went for 41 or 43 (or something like that) in that game? Anyway, yeah, Kevin Singleton was a not super-highly recruited kid (I wanna say from Oakland High?) who came into the game mainly because everyone else was fouling out... and he nailed a couple of shots! Ended up having a long and good Cal career.

Thanks, you're right. Maybe it was Ballard or Kent, some senior who couldn't believe Singleton would just throw up a shot like that.

Went to the infamous Oregon game in '77. Had been going with my girl friend at the time for about a year and a half. She was not really a sports fan but during that time she went to several games with me. She went to the game with me that night, and as exciting as it was it was too much for her. She never went to another Cal basketball game again.

BTW, I believe it was the last second of the third OT when Ransom flipped up about a 10 foot floater to send it to OT #4.
