I thought Brown did well brining the ball down the court on that drive he took direct to the basket for a foul. He utilized one speed to freeze his guy and then accelerated past him. Several folks have mentioned that he needs to be better at that. He still needs to finish, but none the less I feel like he has the first part down better than he did last year.

Well, a pretty good start for the Bears - with Grant still not scoring.
Highlights: Kelly with the shot clock beating three pointer - and Shepherd to Hyder for Three!
And, sigh, another great steal by Brown who dribbles down the court and does not score.

It is a luxury to have a guard you know can always get the ball up court, even against a press. Cal has had teams that did not have that.

Best we've looked offensively all year. Good ball movement. Good outside shooting. And the defense and rebournding are still there. Vey good half so far.

Really the only thing to complain about is our free throw shooting. 4-9 is not good. Otherwise, the team looks great today.

Clearly MacLean is in the camp that Matt leaving got guys involved that used to defer. Earlier he said Kelly has gotten much quicker.

He joins Ben Braun and Dan Belluomini in opining that you better bring your hard hat when you come to Haas. He also said Mark Fox in his 3rd year is 100% trending up.

Thiemann playing some inspired basketball when we need it.

His last basket wasn't a picture of beauty, but it went in. Doing some dirty work on the boards, particularly that last trailing play where he went up above everybody for the rebound.

You are right. There is something very passive/tentative in the way he plays. You may recall there was a pass down low or maybe it was a rebound in the first half where he pivoted and went up for the dunk only to get blocked by the defender. He didn't go for the dunk at all last year. Now he just needs to finish them. He definitely impacts the other team from coming to the basket.
