Put my vote in for Dennis Gates. He was a total class act at Cal, an academic all Pac 12 who graduated with a masters degree in four years. Always discussing strategy with the coaches. At Florida State, he was an outstanding recruiter and studied under Leonard Hamilton, one of the most underrated coaches in the country. Then Gates took over a Cleveland State team that had not won more than 11 games its prior two seasons. In two years, Gates had them winning the conference and going to the tournament. They have a good record this year and could win the conference again. Even if Gates did not have a Cal connection, he would be a serious candidate. His understanding of our program seals the deal for me.
We are going to miss the window for hiring Gates.

I am afraid we will. Knowlton was fine with a bottom dwelling basketball program at Air Force. He was fine with Jones, until insiders raised Cain and from what we can tell insiders are making excuses for Fox. Moreover,
Knowlton does not know who Gates is. If he interviewed him he would not feel as "comfortable" as he does with Mark Fox.

My fear is Knowlton announces the building of the practice faculty and extends Fox four years saying he "deserves to see the fruit of the facility he helped get built."

I hope I am wrong.
How long is it going to be before this practice facility is built. Has a lead donor even been identified?

Here are the last 16 or so coaches of Top 100 NET teams that are NOT in a power conferences. There are a number of former P12 coaches who have had more success at a lower level on this list - like Sendek and Dawkins. Its seems like that is where Fox should turn as well.

Dana Ford
Bob Richey
John Becker
Mike Rhoades
Jeff Boals
Herb Sendek
Chris Jans
Eric Henderson
Johhny Dawkins
Chris Mooney
Darian Devries
Bashir Mason
Pat Skerry
Eric Konkol
Kim English
Ritchie McKay

Faves like Decuire, Gates, Legans and Pasternak are not even in the top 100 NET. There are 36 names on this and previous posts. I think those numbers show that there is probably at least ONE coach out there who is MORE QUALIFIED than FOX and wants to coach at Cal.

Never heard of Campanelli or Braun before they came to Cal (barely heard of Martin and Fox and Kuchen for that matter).

Think, out of the box : ANDRE IGUODALA
I want to add Jorge to the out of the box. He's probably old enough to stop playing and start coaching. Anyone know if he has any interest in coaching? maybe hire Pasternak, he then he brings Jorge as an assistant and they laugh and hug all the time on the bench?!?! Theo is on the bench taking photos and posting on social media. Then we play OOC games every year against Montana, Cleveland St and Eastern Washington and play reunion scrimmages at half time.

I'd pay $$$ to see the reactions on this board if that happened.

How long is it going to be before financing of the practice facility is officially announced?

I went to the UCSD game last November, where they beat us, and I thought they looked pretty good, I swear!

What does that say?!? (rhetorical question - do not answer!)

That would be amusing too. I don't think Pasternak would dare mess with Jorge in a non-public place.
