Not a Cal player but I remember when we were all following his recruitment very well and it came down to us and Purdue. Anyways, way too young. RIP

Very sad story. He had an extremely tough childhood. Screwed up druggie and criminal father. Single mother with a number of kids. Sometimes homeless. Entering 8th grade he was 6 ft 2 in and 360 lbs. Moved so much he had attended 13 schools by the time he was 13.

He had gotten into playing shape and weight by high school and we remember our hopes to bring him here to be a Golden Bear, along with Raab and others.

He did great at Purdue and was a low first round pick, but washed out of the league in three years.

Last year, he was busted for possession of 3 pounds of weed and reportedly weighted 400 pounds. The "natural causes" from which he passed seem likely to be related to his weight/diabetes, etc.

RIP Caleb.

Very sad.

My recollection is that he had some "mentor" figure heavily influencing him (who maybe had connections to both Martin and Purdue?), and while getting a shot at a recruiting class of Brown, Rabb, and Swanigan was nice, but at the time it felt like a mistake that raised red flags for Swanigan to decommit from Michigan St. But maybe in the long run it wouldn't have made any difference if he'd stuck to MSU. Yeah, very sad.

I vaguely recall that he wanted to come to Cal but his guardian wouldn't sign off on the LOI.

This is tragic. I followed that recruiting season more than any other (football included) and was devastated by the whole "guardian" debacle. I feel like had he ended up here, things would have been different. More support. More built-in family looking out for him, especially Rabb. RIP

Despite it all, that's where he went.

I sat behind Oscar Frayer, Rabb, Davon Dillard and Swanigan on that recruiting day in 2015. Dillard went to Oklahoma State.

Glad I stopped them after the buzzer and asked for the pic before they split.

Tragic news. I'm sorry for his family and friends.

Oh yah I remember him and Jaylen commented how sad he was. I think GCU made their first NCAAs with him too. Man... I mean who knew just a few years ago Caleb and Oscar had their whole future ahead of them. Life is cruel.
