But UCSB has lost 3 of their last 5.

Maybe JP isn't all that.

4 years of Fox is enough to show that this is not working. Lost to $c by what 37 2 nights ago, and now to fucla tonight by 35. Wow! Nice going! The jig should be up by now! Take a chance on a young up and comer. And get rid of Knowlton while you're at it!

We lost by 35, but UCLA is #4

Pasternak's UCSB lost by 9 to UC Riverside coached by Magpayo, who is an intriguing candidate. As I have said before, JP would not be high on my list except people here are saying there are major donors who would back him with big NIL payments to players.

I think we have to do a good, thorough search. Pasternack ain't the only good mid-major coach in the country. We need to get the best up and coming coach (by this I mean both Xs and Os and recruiting) we can get.

Agreed. Supposedly there are major donors that will put up big NIL to back Pasternak, but I would hope they would for any good coach that replaces Fox.

Apparently it's NEW money to the AD from a source that has never heavily contributed before.

Maybe Pasternak is mailing it in ala Cuonzo Martin NIT style because things are in motion behind the scenes for him to take over at Cal. Even still losing 3 out of 5 is bad though.

while I don't go to games, I almost always follow the game

last night at 17-2 I stopped, it is just too painful

Fox seems to be clueless when it comes to offense

They lost to UC Irvine in the game kelly was suspended

They lost the next game to UCR with kelly scoring 22 with 8 boards

Now well coached UC Irvine is leading UCSB by 1 game in the Big West. They are a one team NCAA conference so who will go will be determined in the conference tournament

Kelly still has a good shot at making the Dance

Also noted Miles Norris plays for ucsb. He was recruited by Cal, but went to Oregon and then transferred to SB. He would be a clear starter at Cal

I don't know who the next coach should be.

I believe Musgrave, Angus and Fox have done everything in their power to demolish the axiom that you shouldn't fire coaches mid-season.

Saw my first Cal basketball game this year when we took the bus up to Westwood to watch the UCLA game. It was the worst performance that I have ever seen by a Cal basketball team. The level of ineptitude was absolutely astounding. When you consider that the football team that won only 4 games may actually win more games than the basketball team, something is fundamentally wrong with the basketball program. It is inconceivable to me that anyone could believe that the individuals responsible for this should be retained.

He recruits chronically injured players, works them so hard in practice more are injured, and works them harder when they lose to the point of causing major injuries. Totally unacceptable. Criminal..

Agreed, he is just a horrible basketball coach. Even the successful practitioners of this style were run out of the game decades ago. There are high school coaches that are better. Criminal that Knowlton hired him, extended him, and pays him $1.9 million a year to torture the players and the fans.

agree he recruits some players with injury histories, but to be fair, how do you know "he works them so hard in practice more are injured, and works them harder when they lose to the point of causing major injuries?"

A guess because I never see players injured in a game, except Askew. Plus Fox wont allow anyone at practices.

And Fox BRAGS about how hard his practices are, about working out the team until they barf, emphasizes and rewards above all else playing tough, physical defense (with reports of fights in practice in previous years)….

link to where he brags about making players barf during practice?

link to reports of fights during practice? (I only heard of a minor shoving/yelling confrontation during the Martin years.

hey, I'm not a Fox fan, but don't like anyone getting flamed based on fake news. Plenty of other legit things to point to such as his poor recruiting, horrible W/L record, lack of any effort to promote the team, in game and post conference demeaner, etc.

And if these things did happen, I'd like to read more about them.

From his opening statement, something along these lines "I'm going to work them harder than they've ever been worked before and then I will work them some more"....not an exact quote but pretty close....I remember it from his first speech to the team, when you see Justice Sueing looking like "I'm outa here"....can someone tell me where this speech is?

Right?!? I mean they put it out like a hype video and you see a player rolling his eyes. Doomed from day 1. Knowlton has no idea how to pick a coach because he is not tuned in to today's students. That and he comes from a military background which just will not work here. Toss both these idiots.
