Maybe he thought Vlad was going to take many of his minutes. As others have stated, he has a Jorge quality about him.

No - He came to Cal wanting to play for Coach Madsen and NIL was not a factor for him. He was ok with not receiving extra monies, as He was excited about the playing opportunity/quality of staff and the Power 5 level of competition. Things changed out of his control (personal demands needing his support), where financial resources/receipt thereof has become a pressing issue. Then when other schools have kept "recruiting" with NIL offers, it becomes nearly impossible to not consider all options. Bottom line as has been stated before, this program needs additional NIL support to maintain and continue to recruit top quality student athletes.

If backups from Portland that would be getting maybe 10-15 minutes a game are getting any sort of meaningful NIL monies, good lord I have no idea what the world is coming to

Recruit is now spelled h-I-r-e.

Very exciting for one and all.

Meadows was in no way a backup for the Pilots. There's a reason LMU wanted him, there's a reason Madsen wanted him. I wish him the best at his new stop, whether that's at EWU or a Big West school or Indiana. He'll do great.

No, he'd be a backup here is what I meant

Not sure that is true, but now that he is gone let's all agree it is true.

I agree...he could have been a major contributor at point as that is our weakest position....wish him luck...

Maybe we recruited Vlad because Mad Dog knew Meadows was having some second thoughts.

Cone and Askew, and sounds like Brown making strides, plus Vlad the Rimpaler

No. Pac doesn't collapse until after Meadows is out of eligibility.

With Askew as a true pg, Cone preferring to play pg, and the emergence of Brown and Vlad, the room was actually getting a bit crowded. Meadows averaged 11 ppg and 2.2 apg at a mid-major. He probably wasn't sure how many minutes he would have gotten this season.

Absolutely the additional factor to the other reasons that were initially mentioned before. Players often will not be happy with 10 minutes+-/game and that was the reason Joel Brown left as well. When its the last year of eligibility, and you believe you can get more minutes elsewhere (coupled with some NIL monies) its hard to accept being the 9th guy on the rotation.

That fossil along with the fossils of Coach K and Roy Williams also are done. Cal has a chance with all the shake-up in that league!

Yeah, I remember when Villanova & Massimino came in back in the '80's, and Cal won on a buzzer beater by Keith Smith! Good times!

It was my freshman year. I went to many games, including the real fun ones v. UCLA with Donny Mac and Trevor Wilson, but stupid me I missed that one.

IIRC, Cal destroyed ucla at home that year. I remember chants of 'Trevor, Trevor!' LOL

The entire student section at Harmon was filled to the gills an hour before the game and we started that chant as he came out by himself to practice free throws. Such good times. I was there for the "Redhair" game v. ASU too.

I believe the proper order (or at least how it initially played out as they passed the ball):
Redhair
Somehair
Nohair

A great memory. I also miss "Tuuu- naaaaaaaaaa!"

Somehair

The some hair was brilliant because it was a subtle take lol.

We are both too old to rely entirely on our own memories, MOC KAB. Either way, a classic Harmon moment.

I need to know: why did the "You're our tuna for tonight!" go away? Come on, Straw Hats - bring it back!

I liked it back then, but didn't completely understand what tuna was.

Now maybe they can pick a more modern label, and perhaps all of Haas can join in once fans actually show up again and do it together. How random it would look to opponents is the fun part.

This is the order I recall as well. Back when the straw hat band sat IN the student section and LED the cheers. Much better than any Mic Man - ever!

And our teams were not generally top 25, either. But it was VERY FUN! And opponents hated coming to Harmon.

For what it's worth, bustingbrackets.com lists Gonzaga, Pitt, St. Louis and UNLV as the likeliest places for Meadows to transfer to. He'd be a back up player at most of those. I don't buy Gonzaga and I don't know enough about the other schools to speculate about them.
