It is always fun to watch video on new Cal hoopsters. I have included what is most of a full game. I have some comments based on what I have seen.
Wilkinson is a good athlete. He is fast enough and strong enough. Where he shines is accelerating and changing directions. He has a great crossover dribble, and he can crossover and elevate into a jumper like an NBA player, and he shows some ability to finish off the drive. He can definitely drive and kick, although he sometimes jumps before he knows where is going. He plays downhill, which seems to be Madsen's signature style. His high school team is very good, and I assume he regularly plays against top competition. His team plays real defense, too, so I don't think playing college level defense will be a shock.
Less clear is his shooting ability. I did not count but his percentage was not great in this game, though his shot does not look broken. Overall, he seems more like a complementary player on offense than a big scorer. I know traditionalists want this in a point guard, but I think the more offense on the floor, the better. He was fouled at least four times while shooting, but unfortunately the free throws were not part of the video. Also, while he can clearly play defense, it would have been more impressive if he had some steals during the game.
Take all of this with a grain of salt like I do.
