Maybe Askew or Brown in for Cone then? It's hard for me to find a place for Cone in a big lineup.

My idea with Celestine was positionless basketball with everyone 6'6" or more being able to guard almost every position.
Coach will have Cone in the line up as much as possible regardless of match ups - He is that good and the best shooter on the team. Great leader and the team looks up to him. Jerome Randle like, is the hoped for comparision. Agree on Celestine as staff wants him 100% healthy, given his shooting and ability to play multiple positions - so when healthy He is in the top 7. Askew thus far has accepted his role and is playing at a better level than last season. But it only counts when the games begin!
How many times have you had the privilege to see them practice?
twice and the energy level, conditioning and skill level is very good. Team seems to be tight with each other and all the coaches are really hands on. Much higher level of multiple coach involvement than previously. Hopefully the guys stay healthy, as the first 7 are really playing at a high level and even the 8-10 will occasionally see the floor.
@4thGenCal sometime X'd that they heard we lost to Boise State by 15 in a scrimmage? True? If so any initial concerns? Scrimmage usually means nothing, but perhaps helps us to identify glaring things we have to work on early. On perhaps we need to downgrade our ambitions a little?

Expect a season as bad or worse than last year and you'll finally be able to enjoy Cal basketball this year

When will hit the 3 win mark (not Fox, Madsen)?
Third game of the season. I am sure madsen played alot of players in the Boise game

I'm sure Boise played a lot of players, too.

The biggest concern is Tyson appeal not yet being resolved. We need a public shaming campaign against the NCAA if they don't get their act together and get this approved before the season starts. Dragging it out like this is unacceptable.
Likely they are still investigating. I'm curious why the this is taking so long. Is there a time table? Are they over burden with requests? Is there no internet site where they post acceptance and denials?

What is the basis for the waiver request? Does he have a good case? He is from Plano, Texas, played for Texas, transferred to Texas Tech and now has transferred to Cal. I really want him to be eligible this season but I am wondering how strong our case is?

Interesting article discussing the situation:
https://theathletic.com/4450771/2023/04/26/college-basketball-transfers-ncaa-waiver/?amp=1

"Now, a waiver request must meet one of three criteria: mental health, exigent circumstances outside the student's control (such as "physical or sexual assault or discrimination based on a protected class") or assertions involving diagnosed education-impacting disabilities."
Here is some more background on the situation Tyson left:

Racial speech by fired coach at his last location. I read he has a good chance but then the ncaa has only approved 18% of double transfers. Since we are Cal, I assume the worst and hope to be surprised.

Oh right he used Paul's letter to the Ephesians: "Slaves obey your masters" which is offensive coming from a coach to a player even if the coach is not white and the player is not black.

Seems like it fits the "discrimination against a protected class" requirement better than most. The fact the coach was later fired verifies it.

That and Abbott outlawing both "critical race theory" and consideration of diversity and equity in employment at Texas Tech and other state universities seems like a good reason for him to leave Texas Tech for California for his "mental health."

Yes, I think a campaign to bring pressure on the NCAA is in order.

Didn't they finally clear the guy that Mack Brown was complaining about? I mean if good ol Mack Brown can't get it done in time, what hope do we have?

From an Ncaa post.

The DI Board Administrative Committee was briefed Monday on the current status of transfer waivers for this academic year. There are 21,685 student-athletes who entered the transfer portal this year. The bulk of those transfer students are first-time transfers who enrolled at their first schools and are now immediately eligible to compete at their new schools which was the intent of the transfer rule change. Of those who entered the portal, 3% would be multiple time transfers who would require a waiver to compete immediately for this academic year if enrolled at a new school

That's about 650 cases to review. The NCAA bureaucracy should manage to complete that by this time next year.

I've figured it out. Since the player is Tyson we have a long wait because the NCAA reviews transfers in alphabetical order.

Or they are Evander Hollyfield fans and they think he's related to Mike.

In past years ineligible transfers could play in the exhibition games and practice. Has something changed?

My prediction is there will be two variations with Askew and Newell depending on the size of the team
- G Jalen Cone
- G Devin Askew or Keonte Kennedy
- G Keonte Kennedy or Jaylon Tyson
- F Jaylon Tyson or Grant Newell
- F/C Fardaws Aimaq

I expect Jalen Celestine and Rodney Brown to play key roles too

What is your line up prediction without Tyson? I am hoping Newell can make an impact

Without Tyson just remove his name, leaving Cone, Askew, Kennedy, Newell, and Aimaq. I'd guess Celestine as 6th man with Brown and Okafor rounding out the regular rotation

Yes, at least to start the season, that seems like a good prediction for initial starters and eventual rotation. However, Madsen will likely play deeper early and some guys could play their way into or out of the eventual rotation as a result.

I recall when the schedule first came out it said exhibition. That has been removed from every place Inlook. So who knows
