This is frustrating as hell but St. Thomas is a damn good team.
Not really
Watch them win their conference.
Guys, don't do this. Everyone said Portland State was awesome and that all the predictions about them were wrong when Sonny Dykes crapped the bed his first year. And I don't mean that to be loaded. Cal basketball 2023 will not be Cal football 2013.
St. Thomas was 9-9 in conference last year. They are predicted to finish 4th this year. I believe Oral Roberts is the heavy favorite after going 18-0 in conference last year and running the table in the conference tournament.
The Tommies shot the ball well. Athletically they did not belong on the floor with us. But the game wasn't close because they are dramatically better than expected. They weren't. We won because in the last five minutes, while we weren't particulary clean, we enforced our will athletically on them.
Our performance was rough, as you would expect for this team right now. If anyone was looking for a Tedford-Baylor performance, they were unrealistic and they didn't get it.
We were very sloppy. Our energy was night and day better. The team looked like they were enjoying themselves and enjoying playing with each other. The chemistry looked really good. I'd take that as a big win. We aren't depressing anymore.
It's the first step of a journey. How fast we get to the destination is yet to be seen.
