Well, the Pac12 won 8 out of 9 games tonight. First time since Dec. 1954 we've lost to Pacific. Yay!

If we don't have talent on defense, one guy coming back in a few weeks isn't going to turn this team around.

The Mark Fox who started out last year with 12 losses including to UC Davis, UC San Diego and Southern? On his way to 3-29 the worst record in the country and our history with the lowest scoring team in the country?
The only reason he should laugh after we lose to a WCC team early is because we paid him over $10 million to crater our program.
Tyson going down shook the team up. They were leaning way too much on him to begin with, and I think realized he was the only reason they were in this. Madsen needs to get these guys mentally fit. Instead of rallying to pick up the slack, they withered like a pair of fake boobs on an elderly Stanfurd alum.
The whole play free thing is not working. Some players look lost. Askew has 0 vision.
I think the play free thing needs better players, i.e. 5 like Tyson. He can do everything and makes everyone else on the court better. All the others (I haven't seen Kennedy) look complimentary and might need more structure to be effective.
I still think our defense is a disaster. We switch on every screen until a guard or center is on a guy he can't handle. I'd like to see something else, at least on occasion. We can't give up 87 to a team like UOP and win many games.
I don't know if Tyson was injured earlier but he came up limping after his showboat aftermath to a dunk. Looks like a knee, I sure hope it's something which will heal in a reasonable time. It also looked like Newell was hobbled, he couldn't do much late in the game. This is not a team which will win a lot of games with three starters out and Celestine didn't look too healthy either.

Wonder why Askew seemed to play without any plan of what to do. He was a real offensive threat last year before he got hurt.

Back from the game. Okay, we sucked tonight, but relax, guys, this is going to be a process. We need to defend better, especially the perimeter and the PG position is problematic (3 assists, I believe, combined, for Askew, Cone, Pavlovic and Brown).
IMO, it's okay to critique individual players, but hey, don't do it in a derogatory way. We can be better than that.

Fair enough. When I looked at the scoreboard stats with a couple of minutes left, Cone showed zero assists. My general point about that position stands.
I know on the game thread, the filter tends to come off, but some people, before they post something about a player, should imagine if they would say that to the player's face.
A healthy Tyson could play PG. His ball handling, vision, passing, and speed are up to it. IMHO he's our only player who makes the others better.

I thought Pavlovic was another one but he had a rough showing in limited minutes. It's going to be a difficult season. We have a clear talent increase over last year but this is going to take some coaching magic. Hopefully Madsen has it in him.

Last time we played them they ate Cuonzo's breakfast, lunch and dinner in Round 1 of the NIT at Haas. Me, 47 other fans and the Fiji Water girl enjoyed the game immensely.
