4 games in and Fox's failure (there were many) to develop a P12 point guard is glaring. This has to be the priority because the college game (for lots of reasons) still remains one in which you need a facilitator and a guy to take charge on the court with the ball in his hand to initiate offense)

And yes, the defense is AWFUL - again another fox failure to be able to recruit athletic guys that are quick enough to defend the rim and not get taken off the bounce if their man pulls them out.

After 4 games time to get back to reality. Be nice to finish above .500. Not really seeing that but that would be the ceiling. Hopefully 10 wins is the floor.

Besides the fact that my therapist has suggested that I repress this guy's name from my memory, maybe we should set a time limit, after which we can no longer blame current performance on the previous coach.

People were blaming Wyking even last year.

We wouldn't be where we are now if Dick Edwards' last two recruiting classes had been better. Kuchen came in and the cupboard was bare! That's why he could never quite get us over the hump!

The time limit should be one minute. We know what we have. We can set reasonable expectations for the new coach. Of course you don't expect a team to go from 3 wins to final four, but you can expect them to play solid, organized basketball and execute a solid game plan. They may lose by thirty in doing so, but they can still do that.

I understand the emotional need to blame the last coach, but it isn't really productive. I kind of feel that this is the Cal way. Deflect all the blame onto the coach, who usually deserves a good share but not all of it. Forget about all the administration issues (which I know is not the case with OP here). Fire him. Get a new coach. Argue we are turning a new leaf and we should be optimistic, whether there is any indication that we have cause to be optimistic, thus absolving everyone of all the failure of the past. Explain any struggles by pointing at the old coach. After 3 years or so it starts getting too difficult to blame the old coach so we move to the new coach is building and we are about to turn the corner phase. 5 years in, we blame the coach, say he was never any good and start the process over.
