Does anyone know the probable makeup of next year's squad, including elgible returning players and new recruits?
Would love to have him!HoopDreams said:
maybe OSU's PG Pope wants to transfer closer to home to Cal and stay in a Power 5 conference :}
His defense wouldn't be as much of a liability if we weren't playing 4 out with mostly poor defenders. He needs to play next to a bouncy 4 who is good at help defense. For example, Jokic's bad perimeter defense is compensated for to some extent by playing next to Aaron Gordon.ducky23 said:
C: I don't want to make this into an Aimaq debate, but in my opinion, Aimaq would have been a much more effective player 30 years ago. Ideally, I would like a more athletic, versatile center. Someone who can be a rim protector, rim runner and make enough 3's to at least keep defenses honest. The MOST important thing is someone who can credibly defend small on the perimeter. I believe this is one of the biggest changes in how modern basketball is played, in that you need defensive personnel who can switch everything, rather than constantly having to fight thru screens. At the NBA level, you simply don't see teams fighting thru screens anymore, its the way of the past. But you need a big who is switchable on defense. Someone like our own Rod Benson would be ideal.

Jordan Pope at PG, Celestine at SG, Grant Newell at F, Jalen Lewis at F, bandaogo or the Kentucky guy
I don't think that is an option...once a pro, always a pro....Johnfox said:
He has no interest from pro teams. Don't even see his name in mock drafts. Would make sense for him to comeback to college and showcase his talents.
What ever that is? Could not play because of grades in the early season?Johnfox said:
He could go the Kanaan Carlyle route

Those players chose the scholorship option thereby preserving their college eligibility....Jalen Lewis chose to accept a salary and signing bonus....Don't think he can get his eligibility back....Johnfox said:

What if he sues the NCAA? Would they cave?bearmanpg said:Those players chose the scholorship option thereby preserving their college eligibility....Jalen Lewis chose to accept a salary and signing bonus....Don't think he can get his eligibility back....Johnfox said:

I guess you haven't heard, you can be paid to play college basketball now. There is no rational basis to deny him eligibility. Any attempt by the NCAA to deny him an opportunity to play college basketball would not only lose in court, it could be subject to penalties.

Roster
Freshman: Jeremiah Wilkinson
Sophomore: Rodney Brown Jr, Devin Curtis, ND Okafor (if he redshirts), Vladimir Pavlovic
Junior: Grant Newell
Senior: Monty Bowser, Jalen Celestine, Devin Askew (redshirt), Jaylon Tyson (if he returns)
There are 3 spots to fill if Tyson stays (4 if he leaves)
I'd say Askew runs the PG, SG from the portal, Jalen Celestine, Jaylon Tyson (or from the portal), and Center from the portal
Bowser has been given a message by not playing at all. Askew has been given a message by the last two scholarships being given to point guards. One does not to read too deeply.Big C said:Johnfox said:

Read into it what you will: Bowser and Askew both "walked" today (Senior Day).
I literally believe Jalen Lewis is eligible. John Bol from Overtime Elite just signed with Ole Miss. According to the OE website players make a minimum of 100k. So the only reason Lewis would be ineligible would be because he signed before the rules on professionalism changed. As calumnus said, that restriction would not hold up in court.calumnus said:bearmanpg said:Those players chose the scholorship option thereby preserving their college eligibility....Jalen Lewis chose to accept a salary and signing bonus....Don't think he can get his eligibility back....Johnfox said:

I think Tyson will make an NBA team next year if he leaves Cal. Best guard we've had since Jaylon Brown and is probably the Pac 12 MVP this year.bearchamp said:
I hope we can do better at point than Askew. He has talent, but not a very effective game. The Tyson issue is whether he makes more in the "G" league than NIL.
