There is big money here. Just not being donated to mens hoops via the collective at the rate needed to rebuild the roster. At least that seems to be the current situation.
Based on what you say there isn't big money here or there would be no shortage of funds
Well there is a lot of wealth among the Cal alumni base. They just aren't willing to use it to pay for players. That was the point rather than the collective is overflowing with money.
From what Sabasta has posted, and he or someone who knows, can elaborate, it seems like Cal Legends is adhering to more of a "true NIL" policy rather than "paying for players." In other words, we are playing by the current rules (even if unenforceable) whereas others are pushing the boundaries (or just going far over)?
And we believe that to be a winning strategy? Does the phrase nice guys finish last mean anything to anybody around here?
Sebasta can elaborate or correct my characterization. He is doing what he thinks is right and putting a lot of time, money and energy into it. I applaud him and thank him for his efforts and will not criticize. We are lucky to have him and Cal Legends.
If anyone feels strongly about it there is nothing stopping anyone from starting a second more aggressive collective or just paying players directly themselves.
