Word's gonna get out. This team is fun to watch. Beating Vandy on the road next week would go a LONG way toward rejuvenating this program, a la Auburn and football. Let's do it.

To be fair, we did get gameday after that win

It was big at the time, and had we not fallen in our face, we'd be 8-0 with Nandi in their heisman discussion. Beating a sec team on the road is always a big win. Granted, we almost blew that one, too!

Go Bears! Big C, you in da Haas?
Roxy and Ben.

I was in da Haas, yes. One of only a couple/few thousand or so. Loved Blacksher and Petraitis this evening!

Good to see Jarred Hyder play lots of minutes for the Mustangs (and play pretty well to boot). He wanted to be better as a Bear, but he hardly ever got 100% healthy. I think he got his diploma here, so very cool.

Give me more of the second line. The first line feels entitled and less hungry. They need to step it up because this team is starting to establish an identity and that sequence with the second line dominating and the starters cheering them on was huge.

Stojakovic stats tonight:

5 of 17 = .294
2 of 9 from 3 = .222
3 of 5 FT

An early play that won't show up in the box score.

Stojakovic hit an early 3, and as he turned in front of the Cal student section, he put 3 fingers in front of his forehead. Show boating. OK.

Meanwhile, his counterpart sprinted down the floor, and scored a layup.

17 shots, he obviously has the green light.

I saw him play at Jesuit High School on a stacked team. He was good, but not dominant. He didn't assert himself. A friend who was a basketball coach said, "I expected more, I was underwhelmed. He did show good sportsmanship."

Currently this team is about at the same level as Bakersfield and Cal Poly. A massive improvement in play would not get them close to the worst team in the ACC!

So… we beat one team by 13, then another team by 18 a few nights later, and we're "at the same level" as those teams. Maybe you're watching a different game?

I understand this forum is for everyone to state their opinions. But honestly, this conclusion of players' emotional attitudes based on a short span of one basketball game seems to be a bit of an overreach.

We've all been watching basketball for years. Some nights things are going better for players than other nights. My take based on what I've seen so far is that it appears we have some depth, a nice thing to have. If a certain player{s} is having an off night a team with a deeper bench can compensate for that. To project that the first line feels entitled only 2 games into the season doesn't seem to be an opinion that is tangible at this point. Perhaps later in the season with a larger sample size this kind of stuff can come into play.

I'm with you, and I posted much more positive stuff later and after the game in other threads. This was just how I was feeling at the time. And honestly, I think seeing the backups dominate did indeed light a fire under everyone. Andrej played his heart out all game, I'll give him that. But as a unit, in both games, the starters have looked a little lazy by comparison (imo), but that changes as the game wrapped up yesterday. The whole team seemed all in, and I'm excited for what they can do. I really hope the come out EXTRA aggressive and physical vs. Duke and the like, because we do not have the talent to go neck and neck with them without being the aggressor.

What I saw is that the team is just better with Petraitis on the court. He is a glue guy and reminds me so much of Jorge. I wish he had more eligibility and I am excited for having a warrior like that in service to our country

Yes I noticed your later comments kind of backed off of the original one. And I agree, for this team to be competitive they need to show up for every game full focused. And while the talent appears decent it does not appear overwhelming. My hope is as the season goes on, and the players get more and more time playing together, it will allow each player to learn specifically what the strenghts and weaknesses of their teamates are. Perhaps at that point the perception of our talent level will rise.

Completely agree that this team, talent wise, will probably be at best maybe average for the ACC. Where we have the advantage is our depth. We just have to find a way to play harder and hustle more than the other team, period.

I think for the most part the team is playing hard. But we gotta take it up a notch if we're gonna compete in the ACC. So far Petraitis, DJ and Dort are giving max effort. Everyone else needs to follow suit.

It's not an easy thing to ask; that guys take less minutes but play max effort at all times. But if guys making millions on the warriors can do it, we hopefully can do it too.

I do expect us to get better as the season goes along as they learn to play together. It's been a decent start. Not perfect but I love the depth.

I highly recommend trying a different hour. Based on your feedback throughout the game, that one didnt seem to make you too happy.

  • Really awesome beginning.
  • Do the football and basketball coaches give the players quaaludes before they start games?
  • Can we decline the ACC invite for now?

I think we should be prepared for a couple more slow starts in this early part of the season. This is a collection of basketball players who are getting to know each other as teammates while in the process of becoming a cohesive team. That's going to take a little time, and the path won't always be smooth. But given the early results, and the relatively smooth OOC road ahead, I think Madsen will have a good idea of what his rotation is in time for conference play.
