Coleman replaces Wallace with a two season recruiting class offset from Hickman (Singer). Still likely need to replace Jaylen and/or Rabb in 2016 and definitely Bird, Mathews, Domingo, and RMB in 2017. 2017 team could get by without another SF (Bird, Domingo) with no Jaylen, so PF with or without Rabb is the more pressing need.
Technically no room at the moment, so Bowman would only makes sense if Rabb stays and Bowman's significantly better than potential 2017 guard options and more impactful than any 2016 PFs. Can't see room in the manger for another 2016 guard if Yurtseven were truly in the mix. Rabb, K2, and Yurtseven would make for an unconventional 5/4 rotation, but complementary SF wouldn't need to rebound much.

Not an explosive, fast twitch athlete. Jordan Mathews is a good comparison in this regard. Decent handle and will use the left but doesn't finish well with the left - very right handed offensively. Got some strength and not afraid to mix it up at either end. Hustles, high motor defensive player. Best part of his game is a solid release on his jumper. Not super quick but not slow either and good form. Don't see him beating folks off the bounce regularly. Best case feels like a smart, tough kid who can shoot and handle it a bit as a backup PG.

Apparently those were HS videos when he was 6'1". He is now almost 6'4" and may be still growing. That will make a big difference in his game.

I watched videos from this past season. I'd say he's halfway between an Emerson Murray and Tyler Dorsey. Not a difference making recruit. Good fit from a defense and need (backup PG) perspective.

If you are going to play pressure man-to-man defense and freelance offense the number one thing you need is quickness. This is why Chauca never gets on the floor, and I don't see how Coleman will be any different.

Why didn't we just go hard after Vasiljevic?

You are not seeing clearly if you think Chauca is as quick as Coleman.

Some people here argue that Chauca is quick. He is more frenetic and Coleman is more smooth. Neither is quick enough to play in the pac12.

What does Coach Martin say about Chauca? When he was recruited I said he was too slow.

Actually, watching Oregon now, he looks a little like Dillon Brooks, but more athletic. That would be nice. I hope this is like an Allen Crabbe situation where he is a late bloomer. Like Crabbe, who was not even recruited by ucla, as I recall.

Well then it's a good thing cal doesn't play pressure man to man defense.
That's not their defensive scheme at all

Well, it's clear that Sluggo thinks he knows a lot more about coaching and recruiting than Martin and his staff do.

Allen Crabbe was a top 100 player and the CA state player of the year. His recruiting standing was light years better than Coleman as was his film. Coleman's a "nice" player but he's not in the same class as Crabbe, Dillon Brooks (who has 4" and 25lbs on Coleman) or Tyler Dorsey.
Right now his downside is Emerson Murray, his upside is ??? but it's not Allen Crabbe, Brooks, Dorsey or anyone else with a possible NBA career. Let's manage expectations here
CalEnviroLaw;842658577 said:
OK now, revisionist history on Crabbe. He became all that you listed during his senior year, AFTER he signed with Cal. That was the comparison since Coleman has grown a lot and improved a lot since he was rated. I remember another guy by the name of Jorge who improved a lot after he signed. No need to put a ceiling on Dontae, because I am sure he is not doing that to himself.
And your facts are way off on Brooks, who is 6'5" (about 1" taller than Coleman) and was a 4*. The comparison is totally valid. And I am sure that Dontae is a lot smarter.
tsubamoto2001;842658590 said:
Jorge signed out of Findlay Prep. He competed on a national level in HS.
Coleman doesn't look to be taller than 6'2", so no, he's not only an 1" shorter than Brooks. There's no comparison--Brooks is a wing, whereas Coleman seems to be a combo guard.
CalEnviroLaw;842658592 said:
I know that you know that Jorge was a lightly recruited late signee.
Man, nobody does a fact check. He is 6'3.5" and apparently still growing. Are you looking at his HS video? Check Moraga's story. He is a good shooting PG, so comparison to SG/PG Brooks is valid.
Civil Bear;842658623 said:
Dillon Brooks is a 6'7" forward and possible Pac12 POY. Are you thinking of 6' Aaron Brooks that played for Oregon 10 years ago? Regardless, it is puzzling were you are seeing probable pro level type talent from Coleman in his videos.
Maybe hoping for Justin Cobbs type upside would be more reasonable.

Please. I know infinitely less about coaching. And I know nothing about the mechanics of recruiting. But anyone can watch tape.
