Sounds like a domestic dispute combined a wrong address. Sad.

While breaking into the wrong apartment.
Focused, clear thinking...clueless.
Was alcohol involved?

Usually a Darwin involves four components: energy source, intoxicant, testosterone, and epic failure to predict consequences. This one was unusual in that the energy source (gun) was under the control of someone else.

It's terrible that anyone had to die but sometimes bad things happen when you make atrocious life decisions.

Sometimes the bad results are not the result of "bad life decisions" but are the result of one bad decision made in the heat of anger, or under the influence or due to sense of invulnerability (like many young people) or due to inexperience.

Blaming "bad life decisions" often infers a sense of moral culpability on the actor that is not often present.

He's very close to Richard Solomon. He started a few games for the Pelicans and signed a multi-year deal. Pretty crazy how life can change (or end) so quickly.

GivemTheAxe - Yes, who among us when young has not gone to the wrong apartment, kicked down the door, entered, saw the inside, then went to a bedroom door and tried to kick it in? These actions do not infer "a sense of moral culpability on the actor"?

This guy seemed to have a lot more going on than just this one isolated case, if you read other reports. Bounced around to three colleges, even now seems to maybe have some sort of issues he needed professional help with as quotes saying he finally was getting better and stable, but I guess not

There's a song from the late 50's/early 60's called "Silouettes". It tells a story of a guy walking by his girlfriend's house. Sees the silhouettes of two young lovers on the window shades. Gets angry Storms up to the house and starts pounding on the door. Then finds out he is on the wrong block.

Who knows what would have happened if the story were true and the kid was acting "under the influence".

Just saying it is hard to know the entire back story.

But another post pointed out that the USC player may have done something similar in his past. So maybe he was morally culpable.
Never mind.

GivemTheAxe - I remember that song well - I was in Hawaii and saw the original group (don't recall their name) perform that hit in April 1958. It was my first rock and roll show (we lived overseas) and a real thrill. Great song - I like your taste in old hits.

Calfans - thanks for the info - I saw the Rays in April 1958 with my sister and a friend of hers who went to Punahoe HS in Honolulu. A fond memory it is. I think they only sang that song. This info also confirmed my memory that the Rays were one-hit wonders. That was true of lots of groups in those days.
