FWIW Gates and Florida St landed a 7 ft Center by the name of Obiagu who was also recruited by Cal.
Interesting. Florida State is also one of the leaders for Cal target M.J. Walker, right?

Xavier head coaches, Thad Matta, Sean Miller, Chris Mack. Why don't we just have them do the interviewing?

Do you really think Williams and Christ are not going to evaluate character and fit?

Wasn't that kind of the knock on Fisher, he could recruit, but not coach? And Miller supposedly can't coach offense (or so say my UofA friends), but he sure can recruit (my favorite line in the regard was Bill Walton repeatingly saying that Miller "gets out of the way and let's players play." Lavin can always get x and o assistants, and I suspect he probably has improved his basketball skill set over the years. Its at least worth an interview to see what his vision for the program will be. I still think one or two of the present assistants gets an interview as well, also Bennett and Gates assuming the tourney doesn't get in the way. I wasn't surprised the way the football search went, but I have no idea where Cal is going in this case. I'm so out of it, I wish Monty would come back if only to see him go after some of those horrible Pac refs.

A sack of potatoes could recruit well at Arizona.

Pasternack is a candidate because of his ties to the program. If not for that, he isn't on Cal's radar.

Really? Is he in Washington's top 3? He didn't seem to be able to land the recent jobs at Oregon State, Arizona State, or Stanford.

Our last several coaches have been clean, and I'd accept nothing less. It's looking like Coach Martin wasn't a great fit, I hope and expect fit to be an essential qualification this time around.
I agree with can teach and can lay out how he intends to do it. But I'm afraid can win at Cal is hard to predict.
I wouldn't advocate hiring the Dalai Lama (though I think it would be cool to have him participate in the interviews). I would advocate hiring a promising candidate without head coaching experience.

Jason Kidd?

Kidd has a 34 inch waist so that's not gonna work. Joe P, on the other hand, being a bit petite, probably checks in at 31, so he's bettter qualified for the job.
