Just passing along info. Cal is looking for one more assistant coach (or not), and a S&C coach.

Is Webster the odd man out?.....

Surprise. I thought Martin and Webster were joined at the hip.

Agree. We subbed a lot and no one really played crazy minutes yet we seemed to wear out more than opponents.

Can't imagine assts are stoked when someone gets a plum job simply by delivering their kid. Cuonzo's Mizzou staff is not very impressive and sense potential assts now realize that 2 tournament appearances in 9 years at three schools may not be a coach on the way up anymore. Wyking and O'Toole are better than any of Cuonzo's Mizzou assts. Remains to be seen who Cal's third asst (Midgley?) and S&C coach are, but very possible Wyking has a better staff than Cuonzo despite a lower salary pool and a higher cost of living.

I am hoping for Lou Richie. To me that completes the puzzle _IF_ Jones has kept his so cal contacts fresh. I like O';Toole a lot as well but I might have considered going a different direction there (bringing in, for example, one of Enfeld's so cal recruiters as the Associate HC so that guy was getting a raise/promotion. Right now USC is crushing so cal recruiting - Cal needs to do so as well.

In other news, did you know that the cost of attendance at USC has now punched through the 70K a year barrier? Seriously, who is paying that much for a BA???!!????

Yeah, and Illini fans are accusing Martin of "tampering."

Nobody at Cal. I guess U$C is an option for the rich if they can't get into Cal, or another UC.

Yeah, was kind of surprised how underwhelming his staff is. The best piece of the staff is obviously Porter's son

Will Richard Midgley be Cal's third announced assistant coach? Richard Midgley was a Cal basketball team standout through 2006. This California Alum has also assembled a great qualifications for the Cal Job. His resume features play in England professional leagues, great prep and AAU head coaching success, and a recent term working as the NBA Atlanta Hawks Western States College Scout. These career positions provide Richard with the background and opportunity to succeed as an assistant coach at California. His unique set of experiences and qualifications set him apart from other aspiring coaching candidates. Richard's professional international experience should be predictive of success for him and California identifying and securing commitments from the young European prospects who want to pursue achieving both academic and athletic success at the most competitive level in the United States.

U$C (the University of Spoiled Children) was always like that, relative to the current state of real inflation (especially among the 1%, which is maybe a difference, since the 1%'s money is so much more than anyone heretofore ever imagined was possible). It was in fact always notorious as a place where rich kids who weren't interested in whatever might be involved in actual higher learning went essentially learn to maintain their status.

That was my attempt at fan-culture style. I could sing you the song that Sacred Heart students sing to trash St. Ignatius - much worse than anything Shocky has written trashing our Pac 12 rivals.

I always got the impression he was selling something... the fancy videos with him as the star, before and after pics that were semi-doctored, manages to get his dreads/biceps into every media op, seems to shmooze up the "right" people...

Wait! Maybe everything gets fixed by having Nicodemus Christopher and Mike Williams simply switch jobs!

Nope. Dead on. When I was looking at colleges in '78-79 USC had no deadline. I asked the recruiter, "So someone can show with a check on the first day of class and be admitted?" The answer was,"Yes".

Another Downstate IL recruit (Pickett) has also asked out of his LOI. Cuonzo's not making any friends among the Illini fan base. Mizzou with Porter, Tilmon, Pickett, Kevin Knox, and Mark Smith would be very talented. Coaching?

+1 to both you and oskidunker. Thank you. I've been saying this for a long, long time. You want to get stamina, you get it by running up Grizzly Peak, like the last time Cal won the conference 4 years straight and was a powerhouse in the NCAA. And those players could go 40 minutes straight on back-to-back nights, often with no timeouts in the games.

And you don't need a Strength and Conditioning coach to show you how to do it. Your S&C coach could still have players work out in a gym, but you need to make time for running hills. Running could be done in small or large groups, on personal time and not organized, if necessary to avoid breaking NCAA rules about allowed practices. You could hire Jerry Rice or Roger Craig as a consultant, and they could map out the program schedule.

Agree on Midge.

That guy Carl Boyd was a stud. One of my all-time favorite Cal players. Are you just putting the name out there for fun or has he actually been coaching anywhere since he played at Cal?
