Why does the team run zero set plays? Our meandering motion offense doesn't work. Why do we continue using a strategy that results in no scoring? Do set plays also require a skill set that our young players can't grasp? Why? I think some of us just don't understand Jones' strategy.

Just not fun to watch offensively, it's painfully hard for us to score.

I think a motion offense is fine--in fact perhaps a preferred style. But this isn't a motion offense. This is more of "I don't know what I'm doing..."

Why do you think they look so lost? I appreciate youth. I'm also guessing most of these guys have played basketball for various teams before.

Well, we did manage to top 20...

20% from the field, 25% from 3, and 58% from the line in the first half. McNeill and Sueing 0-11. Rough.

Yale had 12 turnovers and twice as many fouls. Got to take advantage of that, but didn't.

At the half, Sueing is 0 for 5 from the field and McNeil is 0 for 6. Hard to do well when those two are struggling so badly

Not that worried about Justice, but Darius seems lost--just as he did in the exhibition. I didn't see any good shots for anyone; no meaningful screening, no off-ball movement. I'm at a loss to see what the offense is.

At the half we have 1 assist and 5 made baskets. But Yale has accumulated 14 fouls and 12 turnovers. Not exactly what I would call a work of art.

I love how people talk around the issue. "Gee the team looks totally lost. What bad luck that they are so young and lack a guiding force!"

On the bright side, Matt Bradley looks solid. Not hard to envision him rounding into a strong performer.

The reality is that we are not good and are not going to be good. Major bummer as we do nothing well. D is poor, can't shoot or rebound but we have nice uniforms.

Not fair. Team is young. They are just a little lost because they are young. We aren't built for the things we attempt. We are built for something else. We are young. We are going to take some lumps this year but the foundation is strong for the future. We are just young. We will be young next year too. But after that we will be older. Unless some guys transfer. Then we might be young again. And it's not fair to be young.

We will be young forever. We were young last year.

Nah. We are the only young team in NCAA. We will be young next few years until Jones is relieved. Then we will magically grow up.

I will judge this season based on improvement. I expect them to be significantly better than now. If they aren't, I will be disappointed.

Yes, Duke and Kentucky have a lot of freshmen but it is unrealistic to compare ours with theirs. This team is 1-2 seasons away. If the team isn't solid (meaning top 1/3 of the conference) by next year, then it is time to make a change. Youth shouldn't be an excuse next year with Austin being a senior and McNeil, Sueing and Anticevich being juniors. Depth will also not be an issue as we will have 12-13 scholarship players.

With JHD being out, Davis MIA and Vanover too skinny to really contribute, this team is 7 deep tonight and will be 8 deep this season. That is an improvement over last season when we were 5 deep.

Did you think the team improved last season? Genuine question because I'm totally mystified by what folks are seeing in Jones.
