I have a really primitive set-up to watch games....PC and Comcast. Back here
a wind of .05 MPH can knock out Comcast.

For some reason I was able to get the entire UDUB game.

Grant A. looked like a different player.....to me anyway

Leaned up...great passer..high bb IQ that allows
him to anticipate better ,than most, on both sides of the ball...all coming to fruition powered by newly found confidence.
Keep it going Bears.

Thank you.

The guys on the team are difficult not to root for.

Grant A. sat for a long time.....the team needs him now and in the future.

I think the coaching staff is realizing that Grant really helps us against a zone due to his size and his ability to simply turn and shoot without hesitation. Placing him at the foul line right in the middle of the zone gives us something that the defense has to be aware of. Then if you notice, the rotation leads him to the corners where the 3 point line distance is the shortest. Hopefully they will continue to use him like this.

Same distance in the corner. Only the NBA has a shorter distance in the corner.

I've been hot and cold with Grant all year

I've thought of him as undersized, not very athletic, over rated as a long range shooter, but most of all, a defensive liability

I've also viewed him as a good mid range shooter to 15 feet, a team player, and pretty good fundamentals

However, I'm slowly changing my view of him. Partly he's getting more PT so I think that has helped his confidence and just allowed him to get in a better rhythm, and I've been able to watch him on the court more

I now think he's a better 3 point shooter than I thought before, and he's the best big man passer on the team. He has been pretty crafty getting tips and other little glue guy stuff, and certainly has the right attitude

Still not sold on his defense and rebounding but overall I thing he deserves his bigger role, although i think Kelly needs to play minimum 15-20 minutes/game so I'm having trouble distributing the minutes among the bigs now that vanover has taken the majority of our center minutes on a team that is probably better running small

Thx for the info, didn't know that. In any case its nice to have a 6-8 guy who's pretty decent in the "catch and shoot" mode.

Pump shot fake, one hard dribble, mid range jumper. Players hedge him for that move in practice and seldom successful.....huge upside with his positive upside. He's been yo-yo'd a bit throughout the year but has finally hit his full stride.
Man I hope we have a good game today.
Go Bears.

My take with GA this season and last is all about his hands. He has(d) a tendency to drop passes, lose rebounds, get stripped easy and lose almost all 50/50 balls. Losing the ball, or not getting it, really prevents his positives from having a chance. The last few games, he has done a much better job with his hands and is contributing significantly more.

Hand fundamentals often pop up when players move up a level in competition. GA should have addressed this last year, at least it seems to be coming around lately.

Honestly, I haven't seen that as a problem with GA. I just think his athletic ability is a bit limited, but his basketball skills seem to offset it.

BTW, your "hands" reference reminded of another problem I have seen this year. Excessive "low" passes by our guards and wings to GA, Vanover, and Kelly. You can't throw the ball at these guys knees and expect much. It has led to many turnovers this year. Just wondering if you or anyone else has noticed it.

Watch GA rebound, for example. He is often in OK position with good foot placement and times his hop to get the ball. Then an opponent will simply take it from him. Similarly watch what he does with 50/50 balls (especially on the ground) he might be the first to get there, but can't hold on. Having said this, he will probably never do it again and make me look the fool (I hope so).

Agree with team passing to the big men. Low passes and bounce passes at the wrong time. Another fundamental item that shouldn't be seen at this level - or at least cleaned up during pre-season.
