I found a Bears + 11.5 spread. I think Cal can cover that despite the Maples corruption. That is a take the Bears and the points and bet the whole damn brewery.

Top of the morning to you. We'll pack it in 2-3 zone.
Don't let DaSilva get the ball in the high post where he hits Sharma at the rim or kicks out for perimeter shot...good facilitator. Get Bradley on the scoreboard early. JHD coming in off the bench for defensive spark. Grant/JHD at high post- catch turn and shoot. Connor brings Sharma OUT from under basket to defend with mid range shots. Kelly bounce Sharma around. Paris needs 10 dimes.
Doutrieve has bad wheel and questionable but he's not going to miss this game. To win this we need to hit perimeter shots. Go Bears.

We did remarkably well vs Sharma and desilva in game 1

It was their two stars who hurt us

But we need to put Sharma on the bench to get their shot blocker/rebounder/low post scorer off the court

My strategy is to make him defend the wing defender. And every time he goes out to defend on the perimeter, instruct the player to drive hard. Sharma can't defend out there and will foul

....except in Maples where he can't commit a foul no matter how hard he tries.

Davis not Doutrieve. Senior moment.

Thr reason i bring up their point guard Davis being questionable for the game tonight is that Stanford turns the ball over more than anyone in the Pac12 15.2@game and we're second in Pac12 in steals 7.2 @game. Stanford poor beyond the arc.

Quick thinking of drawing iso D by Sharma out from basket out tothe wing and have him tally fouls. Crazy repeating thought I've posted before in some manner below.
Stanford gets majority of their points in the paint and are poor perimeter shooters as a team.
Tweek 2-3 zone to a 2-1-2 and put JHD in the 1 spot.
He can deny the ball entry at the high post and slow down dribble penetration to give time for Connor/Kelly to swat/alter shots. JHD can crash the boards in any direction depending on the shot and get out quickly in transition from the 1 spot on the zone.
Probably something to work on for next year along with man to man. You have to mix up your defense during a game to adjust to their adjustments or personality of the game. Go Bears.

I like the idea. I also like Dyson at the top of a 3-2 zone defense, but a 3-2 defense isn't the right strategy vs Stanford

Another possibility for the future

Refs will help tilt the game towards the home team in an otherwise meaningless game.
Subconsciously.
It happens every year.

I like all kinds of zones but I wouldn't stick JHD on the top of 3-2....wouldn't that bring him too far away for rebounding? I sure hope we make a good showing tonight.

It is sad when one of our best rebounders is a guard. With our lack of rebounding, we need every rebound we can get, so I'd agree with you. If we had better rebounding, and Vanover was a better defender, I'd rather see JHD at the top of a 1-3-1 or a box and 1. And my first choice would be to have everyone play man, if wed had four other players who were any good at it.

Agreed...Man to man is a must for our guys to concentrate on as soon as the season is over..especially this summer. Man D is all about grit and conditioning. There are nuances of man D (switching on screens vs over the top, etc). But it's basically " You got #23 don't let him score". We should throw in a an additional zone to change things up a little next year along with our 2-3 and MTM.. I'm praying for a good showing tonight...a win would be nice but a solid outting in a well fought encounter would suffice going into the Pac12 tournament with momentum.

Lol, just saw the score.
After UW and WSU, I wrote that I had predicted a Cal win, just not posted it.
So, this time, I posted with confidence, and was wrong.
Gladly wrong!

Now to read the game report!
