Bears looking a little scary right now...

I posted this in another thread and just realized that there isn't a single major conference team listed:

While a major longshot given our lack of depth, thanks to our recent uptick in play and the overall awfulness of the P12, we have a realistic possibility to make it to the dance with 12 wins.

In a season full of articles about how Cal is the worst and the coach is the worst, this is a worst I would love to be associated with.

I don't think we're looking scary to any good teams. However, the Pac-12 doesn't have any good teams this year.

Given that the definition of "scary" you're probably using is "has the serious potential to beat a much higher seed," then Cal is a scary opponent in the Pac-12 tourney, but whoever gets the 10 seed is scary. If you ignore seedings, NOBODY looks scary, which means EVERYBODY is scary (except perhaps WSU right now - I'd rather be the 6 seed than the 5 for that reason).

If there is a year when the 12 seed could win the tourney, it is this year, although with our depth, or lack thereof, the chances of beating a top 4 seed in the finals won't be as great as if we were playing rested.

What do I know? Nothing. Anything is possible as bad as the pac12 is.

Only good news Since November is that Snearing Sean Miller is probably history.

Actually, I think most teams right now would rather play WSU than Cal. I doubt anyone would prefer Cal over any of the other 10 teams, but WSU, probably. It isn't about the overall record, it is about how the team is playing right now. WSU's record is barely better and is playing worse right now.

But this is a terrible conference. It was kind of funny to hear Walton yesterday talking about what a bad game Oregon-UW was. And he was right. But there haven't been a lot of games well played on both sides in the conference this year. So while Cal may not be scarier than anybody other than WSU, the other teams aren't much scarier than Cal right now.

That is a big part of the reason why it was so disappointing to lose the first 15 conference games, especially with too many blowouts, too many of the first 8 games plus SC and Arizona in the second half. No reason we couldn't have been competitive, and if we were competitive, we might have ended up winning 2 or 3 of those games. 6-12 would sure feel better than 3-15.

With all this talk of how bad the PAC 12 is, it is going to send me to my Happy Place when several of the teams built up by the Eastern biased media sh@t the bed early in the NCAA Tourney and throw everyone's brackets out of whack.
