While I would have liked to have seen DeCuire hired, there must be some reason he has not been lured away from Montana as yet. Maybe he'll replace Haas on the Farm...

Look, I am not saying Decuire was a no-brainer against the field. But he was v. Fox. And like OTB said, it's not Fox's fault, and I hope he can work a miracle here (judging by past performance, it's unlikely and esp. when he is a poor recruiter). But this is all on Knowlton, and now we are clearly seeing that he does not have the chops to be power conference AD.

I don't see why you say that. It's not like he has been at Montana for a long time. Not really. For the talent Cuonzo he has had in his coaching career, he has under performed badly. How many games close games did he lose down the stretch with a team of NBA guys? You've heard the argument with Fox, yes he was kick ass at Nevada but there is Exhibit A (his 9 years at Georgia) he is not kick ass at a power conference. Personally, I don't want an NBA roster. I want a roster of good (4-star) players who plan to stay at Cal 4 years and graduate. I think after a few missteps Jones was well on the way to assembling such a roster. Unfortunately in just two weeks Fox has managed to set that back a year or two.89Bear said:

Equally important I want a coach who can get the most out of the players, both individually and as a team. I think that requires, among other things, relationship skills such as communication, motivation, flexibility, understanding, respect, etc. I'm on the outside but so far I have seen no evidence Fox is strong in these areas.

If we want to say we'd rather have Decuire than Fox, I'm in line with that. However I'd rather have Mick Cronin than Decuire. Would Cronin have come here? And I still maintain that my guy was a way better choice than anybody on the common Cal wishlists and certainly better than Fox.

Exactly. I felt the same way when Monty retired and Decuire has only improved his status as a HC at Montana. He would have satisfied everyone.
