I think he just did, but this was a lot closer than it should have been.

Besides the charge, Paris is boarding, shooting, dishing

Davis basketball played well against Cal, just as their football team did.

Paris: 12 points. 5 rebounds.

I thought UCD PG #15 Manjon looked great - without him it would have been a blowout.

Cal's 15 turnovers concern me.

Grant was a beast on the boards with 11. The most any other player on the court got was 5.

Hey they won. Good!

15 turnovers no bueno. But there's some reassurance there - young teams usually see those numbers come down as the season goes on. Opportunity for improvement!

I thought Cal would win going away vs undersized UC Davis

Not quite sure what the problem was, but I have to give kudos to Paris Austin

Sometimes I think he tries to do too much, and plays weak defense

Today he was our vet, and led the team to the win. Not only did he score, but he played the best D on their PG, and rebounded with authority

Complete game from him

yes, thought he did finish well for Cal. They are growing, it will take time, but I think it is in the right direction finally.

I'd say 4 of our upperclassmen carried us. Bradley, Anticevich, Austin, and South each played over 30 minutes and together scored 58 of our 72 points. In one sense that's a good thing but in another sense I'd like to see our younger players contributing more.

Grant with a double double tonight

He almost had one in the game against Cal Baptist (one rebound short)

Lots of things to clean up but the Bears are looking much better than the last few years

Go Bears!!!!!

Bradley is not an upper classman. He is a sophomore.

Of course, my mistake. Bradley confused me by playing like an upperclassmen.

Other areas which concern me: we got only 3 offensive boards and we caused only 4 turnovers. I think more hustle is needed to improve those numbers.

Assist/TO ratio is now .732......there's now a trend that needs to stop.

Shows what the past two years have done to our standards, when someone can come away from tonight's game with a sense of optimism. (We barely eked out a win at home against UC Freakin' Davis, who came in at 2-5.)

Neither of those numbers, in and of themselves, are all that meaningful.

When you have to start from the bottom, success gets measured differently. I still haven't finished the second half cause the first half just put me to sleep, but at least it's not giving up 96 points to Chaminade.

Why do you care? Davis had an A/TO of 9/4. They lost. Our ratio was 11/15. We won.

That should probably tell you something about the lack of meaning of those numbers, but I doubt it will.

We beat Big West teams the last two years too. Progress will be measured in PAC-12 wins.

IMHO both are indicators of intensity, and in the UC Davis game both were season lows. I suspect our advantage in total rebounds was due to UC Davis missing twice as many shots as we did. I doubt or offensive rebounding was low by design (everyone run back on defense) since UC Davis scored 11 points on fast breaks.

OTOH we continue to shoot well, which I think comes from good shooters (indicating recruiting and player development) taking good shots (indicating coaching and teamwork).

From a philosophy/strategy standpoint, Fox teams are not gonna get many offensive boards. Fox wants to limit transition opportunities as a priority over sending guys to the offensive glass. And it seems to make sense just from a math standpoint. Tony Bennett coaches this way too at UVA.
