So why doesn't any of our post recruits want to come to Cal?
I agree. I like surprises better. Noble. Williams. Maul.xxnatedoggxx said:
Vanessa de Jesus is now going to Notre Dame. It was almost better not knowing the prospects before, so I wouldn't be disappointed.
I am guessing we are weighted down by three factors:3Cats4CAL said:

I had a list of posts with proven production, and still have four people on it, including Jamiyah Barker from UCLA. After that, I think we will go after 2-3 non-proven people, and see if at least one of them can develop and rise to the occasion.Woodacre said:
There are approximately 1000 uncommitted players still in the portal, and perhaps more to come. Hope springs eternal
She did have a great tournament game. She is listed as a 6'2" guard and has shot only 15% from three in three years at Texas, including 5.6% (1 for 18) this year. But if she wants to be a slashing wing for us, we have an opening.wbbilluminati said:
I liked Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda in the final four. kind of a unique player, long and tall but incredible slashing to the rim. from South Dakota. In the portal and kind of the only intriguing possibility at this point but who knows. no clue if she's ever been in touch with Charmin.
Marta did a lot for us, and that should be appreciated. But her TO's were always tough to watch. And in her final tournament game, she shot 1-8 with 8 TO's and 0 assists. Her new coach at TCU , Mark Campbell, runs a low TO team with a lot of talent, so this will be a great chance for her to put it all together.HoopDreams said:
ESPN listed their top 25 transfers, and Marta is #22
Not sure why she was so under appreciated here at Cal by some
ESPN did recognize that at Cal she really developed and had the opportunity to shine. That's a good recognition of the Cal coaching staff:
"After getting lost a bit in her first two seasons at Tennessee, Suarez found more opportunity with Cal and took advantage. Her 12.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game were career highs"
I think that frustrates Charmin. So, her next course of action was to get Meghin Williams hired as general manager to help approach these big donors and find others. Show them how they can broaden their philanthropic pursuits and the benefits of adding WBB to their current donations to football and men's basketball.HoopDreams said:
Good post players are like good DEs or Offensive Tackles … everyone needs/wants them but demand exceeds supply
Plus we probably don't have a competitive NIL
Isn't there a few big donors for WBB? Seems like a NIL dollar goes a lot farther for WBB compared to MBB and FB

I liked that she gave us a fourth reliable three-point option on the floor and that she could also bring the ball upcourt when the pressure was on. That was usual for a frontcourt person, and something that we really needed. But I don't think that they will look for her to dribble the ball in the half court as much at TCU,HoopDreams said:some matchups were good for her. some matchups were badannarborbear said:Marta did a lot for us, and that should be appreciated. she had multiple double-doubles (7.2 rebounds/game), was a stretch 4, shot 82% FTs, defended the post and grabbed rounds
in our NCAA loss, there weren't anyone else scoring besides Lulu in the first half and Michelle in the second half. Yo and Kayla were shut down.
So yeah, she forced it sometimes but nothing else was working

Is there any activity on the Women's side to recruit from the portal? Any recruiting progress whatsoever?

6'6" Medina Okot of Mississippi State, also on my remaining list, signed with South Carolina today.
She was recruited over...I mean, not sure under what circumstances she stays....SFCALBear72 said:
Zahra King to SMU. I was hoping she had changed her mind about leaving, but I guess not.
Posted just now on Instagram.
That's one reason why I'd like Cal to be in a league with those schools.annarborbear said:
I was just looking at the portal activity of UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego. Each school has only one transfer out, and all four of these individuals are grad transfers after receiving their degrees. So stability and real student-athletes still do exist in college sports. But you have to decide that that is what you want.
She'll now be playing for Adia Barnes.Woodacre said:
Good luck to her. They have brought in at least 9 other players, while losing 9 so far. Not sure what kind of playing time she'll earn/receive.
While looking at the additions by SMU, it's almost like they are taking all the guards like TCU took all the forwards. lolWoodacre said:

What are these UC schools NIL situation.......and does NIL exist at the D2 and D3 level.....annarborbear said:

I have identified three good players we may be after in those locations:HoopDreams said:
Cal WBB posted on socials that coaches are traveling in South Carolina (that was successful!), Phoenix, Arizona , Dallas and Hampton, Virginia

6'2" forward Chantae Embry who has just entered the portal from SMU (11.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg)
6'3" Center Kadidia Toure, Arizona State (5.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg in 2023-24)
6'2" Forward Kayla Rolph, William and Mary (6.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg)
I didn't realize that future college sports eligibility is so up in the air in these various anti-trust lawsuits. I am reading that various ideas floating around include to give everyone five years (not including JC years) while eliminating any kind of additional waivers, while another idea would be to provide endless eligibility so long as you are enrolled as a student. Some say that the only way to resolve this will be for Congress to provide a very specific anti-trust exemption with their own specified eligibility limits. Hope that they will do that because I don't think any of us would like to watch 40 year old perpetual students living off of their NIL,brevity said:

Nice! I thought about making some similar guesswork. One small problem: Chantae Embry "just entered the portal" because she's one of those players out of eligibility who is preparing herself for an unlikely extra year, depending on what the courts and the NCAA decide.
We also have some 2026 class offerees in a couple of those areas:annarborbear said:I have identified three good players we may be after in those locations:HoopDreams said:

5'11 PG Sage Henry, Gilbert AZ
6'2 F Cora Bennett, Converse TX

I see that Chantae Embry has had two season-ending injuries, one in high school and one recently.RedlessWardrobe said:
