MB: So, do you think Mi'Cole is close to making a decision? She's been on her official visit to UCLA. Was she still taking a visit to Utah as you mentioned previously?

As far as I know, yes to both.

Still no word yet, I'm guessing. Come to Cal, Mi'Cole!!

She's in finals this week so probably next week.

Might now Actually be more of a Cal-Arizona battle.

Interesting. Adia Barnes. New coach. Former Arizona and WNBA player and has a coaching connection to UW. Come play for a more experienced head coach, Mi'Cole!!

Micole is extremely competitive. I think she likes Arizona, but wants to compete at a high level, which under the circumstances, I don't think they will be at this season. Not taking anything from Coach Barnes, as I think she will be great for Arizona, but I think it's going to take some time to rebuild. With that being said, I doubt Arizona is standing in the way of Cal.

^^^^ You are probably right and you being a Ram parent for all these years you know all the girls pretty well...
My gut tells me it comes downt to Cal & the Utes.

Moraga, I can't remember if ASU was also on her list...anyone know?

I ran into LG on my way to Colorado Springs (she's on the U18 selection committee), and she says Mi'Cole should make a decision next week.

I also saw Kianna Smith and Alayshia Styles for the first time, and both looked very good. Styles hit a long three, and Smith also hit a perimeter shot. I'll see more tomorrow ...

If Cal could land two such skilled ballers at the positions they play, who can drain the three, too, it would be a big plus for this Bear team.

Clay, iss Colorado Springs where you saw Smith and Styles?

Both Styles & Smith are trying out for the USA U17 team, of course along with a million others! (150 total)

Neither were of the original 35 invited to the trials (which ended up being 36 w/ a late addition of 6'3" Danielle Patterson, top 10 player from NY).

Original 35

Article after 114 applicants (?) were added, + Patterson:

I am in Colorado Springs, and that's where I saw Smith, Styles and a whole lot of other really good players. But there is no alpha dog here, no Maya Moore or Breanna Stewart. This team could be in trouble in Spain ...

Well, last year's U16 team (from basically the same pool) settled for bronze, and that was just the FIBA Americas U16 Championship. This team will be playing in the FIBA U17 World Championship.

Having Megan Walker, Evina Westbrook, & Chasity Patterson (3 of 2017's top 5 according to both HG & PN) in the U18 age group doesn't help (then HG 2017's #5 Ayanna Clark isn't at either trials).

Perhaps selecting Rellah Boothe this time (consensus top 3 from 2017 and many considered her "the" big omission from the U16 team, FWIW) as well as the "on-again-off-again" #1 prospect from the c/o 2018, 6'4" Charli Collier (Honesty Scott-Grayson & Aquira Decosta being the other two from 2018 who have held the top spot at times) could result in an improved squad.

I can only see those events hurting. It highlights and renforces the issues plaguing the program and gives those arguments leverage. I hope it doesn't effect Cayton, but can't see it helping.

Anyone know when we hear about a decision by Mi'Cole Cayton? She seems like a necessary additional with SI following her coach and Gabby quitting. Otherwise this team will be too thin on the bench again. Seems like Cal would be attractive as playing time will be available and we could be really good with some added depth, like Mi'Cole.

ditto-it's June 3rd and still no commits from Sabrina Ionescu or Micole Cayton. I don't get it...
ClayK
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sabrina will commit when Kelly Sopak decides whether he will coach at Washington or not. That will be late next week, I'm guessing.

Cayton was supposed to make up her mind by the end of this week, but who knows? We're dealing with teenage girls here, and all that that entails.
kat0189
How long do you want to ignore this user?
FWIW, Cayton's boyfriend is heading to Colorado State for football, IIRC (gleaning off twitter). Although I think Moraga said Cal, Arizona, and UCLA were the main three for her (then I believe she visited Utah but not sure if a Colorado visited was ever mentioned).

Arizona might make some early noise. I pointed out that her husband and recently hired assistant at Arizona (an Italian w/ diverse experience including a WNBA coaching position) was the HS coach of two top 100 from the c/o 2017's—Shalexxus Aaron and Tea Adams. Though Shalexxus Aaron's brother is a D1 player who transferred from L'Ville to USC, the only official visit I've heard of for Aaron has been a recent trip to Tucson.

Sad ..to think a decision is based on the decision of her HS & AAU coach.

If Cayton doesn't come through..any chance of Cal go after Sierra Smith for 2017? Think she recently got an offer from USF. Think she actually skipped a grade.

I am told we will know if Kelly Sopak will be moving to Seattle by next week. Once that part is decided we will know which school SI will be attending based on if Sopak is offered the job at Washington. She is definitely the leverage for the offer.

Washington and I believe Oregon also has European trips planned this year for their teams and players must be in school by mid June to be able to take those team trips. That is the deadline.

Definitely not your normal recruiting story.

Should be soon for MiCole. It was always going to be after finals.

Feeling fairly good about things but we'll see soon enough.

Hope you are right, otherwise coaching staff needs to be working on a plan B & C for 2016.

According to the St. Mary's calendar graduation was last Saturday May 28th, so I assume finals are finished.

Yep, finals wrapped up last week. Micole graduated with honors last Saturday. I believe she just returned from her official at Utah, which I also believe is her last visit. I am sure we will know something soon.

UCLA just got a commitment from Lindsey Corsaro, 6'0 guard from Indiana, after her release from Kentucky as per ESPN.com this morning. This may certainly impact Mi'Cole's college choice.

From what I know, UCLA was not going to be the choice anyway, so this has no effect on her decision. I am sure we will know for sure soon.
