Good, I'd love to see her at Cal. Do you know if she'll decide this week?

Word is that Washington is pushing for immediate eligibility for Romeo.
In the meantime, check out the Husky gear for Sopak

In your opinion, does this commitment impact Ionescu's decision regarding UW and Oregon? Does it push her more towards Oregon?

Let's not be talking about throwing money anyone's way. A Pac-12 collegiate job is enough of an enticement to give a hs coach to make a move without risking major sanctions with payoffs for delivering players. And maybe it's enough to get his star player, too. They're pretty tight and comfort level is of major importance to Sabrina.

It's not his position to push his players into anything. That would be irresponsible.
And I really don't see any difference between a program offering a preferred walk-on slot way ahead of when those things are normally determined to a star recruit's very average (prior to this season) brother, with vague promises of potential future scholarships vs. hiring one of the most successful high school and AAU coaches in the country, whether it's to get an AAU pipeline or increasing the likelihood of getting his star player plus a star transfer.
I don't like either of them, personally.

If my kid's coach just happened to be offered a job at the school that my kid just happened to be recruited by, I would tell both that coach and that school where to go. If a coach can't make it on his own merits, he shouldn't think that he is going to be able to use my kid in that way.

As for the timing, until Adia Barnes and Fred Castro were hired for head coaching jobs, there were no openings on the Washington staff. That happened relatively recently ...
And along that line, I don't know what would happen to Cal Stars, which is a huge operation with many teams. Presumably Bernard Butler would take over the top team, but as for the administration, etc., that's a big question.
In terms of Miramonte, it would be a major issue, because the school would have to go through the hiring process. That won't happen during summer vacation, most likely, because administrators take their time off then, and people just aren't around. Presumably, they'd start in August sometime, but even then, it's a crapshoot. Acalanes had won 44 games in the last two years and the coach left, and he was replaced by a young woman who had a 6-61 record at Kennedy of Fremont the past three seasons. Now she may turn out to be just fine, but the coaching talent pool will be pretty shallow if Miramonte doesn't hire until August, though again, Bernard Butler would be a strong candidate. Still, administrators often have certain agendas and priorities than players, parents and fans don't necessarily share.

I've seen such jobs posted in the Contra Costa Times. There's no reason it has to be a "major" thing at all.
MHS is a public hs. Big deal.
Let's stop making high school sports into something bigger than it should be.
Academics first, please.
Athletics is a 50-50 proposition, in terms of wins and losses, and 99% of the participants are going to end their involvement upon graduation. Academics, however, continue for life. I'm not against athletics as a source of good health, life lessons, etc (quite FOR IT, actually), but the excessive focus our society places on youth sports is at times nauseating. It doesn't really matter how "good" we collectively become at the activity - what is important is simply that we DO it. If everyone gets better and better at a sport, such that our relative competitiveness doesn't change, what has been gained? Since most will never suit up again anyways.

I realize the source - but that story does not put Romeo in a good light.
