200BR Cal 7,9,10,13 HUGE POINTS!
TX 5,12.
Cal 422.5 TX 392.5
With 200FL Cal 2/1 and Tx 0/0, we should have the win even before 4FR relay!!!!
The meet is still on going. However, with the remaining events/possible points up for grabs, it is not possible for any team to catch/pass the Bears.HateRed said:
So, has CAL actually won the NCAA swimming title?

Is there a thriving transfer portal for swimming akin to what there is for football and basketball that Coach Durden can search for immediate help next season?swimmer19 said:
Great job by everyone involved with the team this weekend. Glad to send off our seniors and 5th years with a bang. Looking ahead, the team turns their focus to the long course season, eyeing World Championship Trials in April and US Nationals in July/August.
For the next NCAA season, we lose Daniel Carr (20.5), Bryce Mefford (15), Sean Grieshop (11), Trenton Julian (39), Hugo Gonzalez (41) and Reece Whitley (27). Will Roberts and Chris Jhong were also impact scorers at the conference level. Hugo and Reece haven't declared another year, but are eligible to swim next year should they choose - caveat being they are factored into scholarship amounts.
Returning individual points: 165
Returning relay legs: 12/20
Will need to replace Reece on the 400 medley, Trenton on both medleys/800 FR, Carr on the 200 medley/FR, Hugo on the 400. The obvious medley replacements are Liam Bell for Reece, and Rose for Julian. Dylan Hawk was on the Pac-12 400 free relay, so will likely replace Hugo. Kinda curious why Bell wasn't on both medleys in the first place - beat Reece head to head both in the morning and at night.
2022 recruits are solid, but most will need substantial development to make the NCAA meet. Zach Tan is currently fulfilling military duties for Singapore so I believe his arrival is TBD.
Impact transfers are not uncommon for the top programs. Texas benefitted this year from the grad transfer of sprinter Auchinauchie, and in earlier years got significant help from Alvin Jiang, Chris Staka, Jake Sannam and Maxine Rooney. Cal was greatly helped by transfers including Liam Bell, Hugo Gonzalez, Zach Yeadon and Chuck Katis. U of Michigan super stud Maggie McNeil has announced she is transferring to Cal for grad school and her final year of eligibility.SFCALBear72 said:Is there a thriving transfer portal for swimming akin to what there is for football and basketball that Coach Durden can search for immediate help next season?swimmer19 said:

swimmer19-thanks for your input! I didn't know that Hugo Gonzales & Reece Whitley could swim another season if they want. Hugo was coming into his own last season and during the postseason so I could see him returning. I don't know about Reece. It is up to him. The #1 breast stroke swimmer from Minnesota will be gone I believe so that may have an influence on his decision.
Liam Bell was superior in the 50 (200 medley relay) & 100 breast events while Reece Whitley's best event was the 200 breast stroke.
I looked for the PR announcement of the 2022 recruit class and I couldn't find it. Could you provide a link if possible please.
Texas has multiple impact seniors who are likely eligible to return, including Drew Kibler, Dan Krueger, Brad Vines and Cam Auchinachie (possibly a grad already, but he may, per SwimSwam, have another year of eligibility left). Superstar diver Jordan Windle probably has another year of eligibility left if Texas decides to keep him on their roster. If several of these swimmers (and diver) decide to stay on, they should be favored in 2023.swimmer19 said:

Besides Jake Mitchell in the Portal, two other Michigan swimmers have entered the portal Clark Wakeland a 2 times NCAA qualifier and Sophie Housey an All-American. Clark is a 5th yr, so most likely looking for some grad program but Sophie will have 2 yrs left.swimmer19 said:
In other news, US Olympian and Michigan sophomore Jake Mitchell is in the transfer portal. Any chance we could possibly land him?
Thanks for correcting me! Misread it and thought he was initially transferring out . Yes looks like something is happening with the Michigan program . This from Swimswanswimmer19 said:
Wakeland's transferring from Georgia Tech to Michigan. Housey had visited Cal before committing to the Wolverines.
With the high amount of transfers/swimmers taking time off, something's clearly not right in Ann Arbor.
Quote:
The Wolverines have lost a number of swimmers to transfer this season off both their men's and women's team.
House is one of a number of Michigan men and women who have entered the transfer portal and/or announced a decision to transfer this season. Also within the last week, Greta Gidley, who wasn't able to match her high school best times in a semester of racing at Michigan, entered her name in the portal.
Others include NCAA Champion Maggie MacNeil (Cal transfer), All-American Sophie Housey, Olympian Jake Mitchell, All-American River Wright, and All-American Danny Berlitz (West Virginia transfer).
Also entering the portal this season are Victoria Kwan (September) and Alexandra Klein (August), plus 5 other members of the men's team.
