Honestly, pleasantly surprised by his second place (with such a strong ASU and Texas contingent)! Go Jett.

45 flat for Bjorn for second in the B-final 1 back, 10th overall. Fingers crossed for the A final that's about to hop in!

Lasco third, adds just 0.01 for 43.94.

Cal remains on top of the team standings (by 17 over ASU, 37 over Texas) with diving and the 4 med relay to come.

Destin with a 3rd place in 43.94 in the A final!

Before diving and the relay, Cal leads with 287 points, followed by ASU (270) and Texas (250). NC State and Florida out of the running, but they're in a battle with Indiana for 4th.

Texas has one diver in the 3m final coming up.

Bears end the night with a 5th place finish in the 400 medley relay!

Lasco (44.07), Whitley (51.37), Jett (44.39) and Seeliger (40.45) combine for a 3:00.38. A bit slow for Whitley (assuming coaches are resting Bell for tomorrow morning).

Edit: this entire time I thought it was Rose on the relay… looks like it was Jett instead

Edited due to correction! Wild that Cal wasn't too far off their winning time from last year tonight, but Florida, ASU, and Indiana were so fast.

Are we in good shape heading into tomorrow? Thanks!

Teams standings after today's events attached. Based on the psych sheet we are projected to earn 183!!! points tomorrow, including a massive amount in the 200BK. ASU is projected to earn 125pts, so a relative +58 points for Cal over ASU. No idea what's expected of TX as the psych sheet is useless against what they're actually swimming. The 200BK will set the stage. Fingers crossed

200 back - Lasco (1:36.68) and Hugo (1:37.74) take the top 2 seeds, but Colby (1:39.74) and Somerset (1:40.04) are in the B final, 11th and 14th overall.

Cal 2/2, ASU 2/0, Texas 1/0.

Huge swim for Alexy - 40.88 for the top seed! Bjorn with a 41.17 for T-4th going into tonight.

ASU 3 down. Running total Cal: 4/2, ASU 2/3, Texas 1/1

Louser (1:51.43) for 7th in the A final, Reece 1:51.74 for 10th going into tonight's B final. Bell spent too much time underwater and dropped 3 seconds to end in 1:53.76 for 27th.

Running total: Cal 5/3, ASU 3/4, Texas 2/2

Bears got it done!!! Jett 1:39.71 and Rose 1:40.00 for the top 2 seeds going into tonight.

Final running total: Cal 7/3, ASU 4/5, Texas 2/3.

Barring major catastrophe tonight, Bears are clear to push relay starts. Roll on!!

I studied all of the prelim results and ASU is the only team that might compile enough points to stay in it to the final relay. In the mile swim, ASU and Texas have two swimmers with faster times than Cal's Belgium transfer. Texas has the #3 qualifier. I doubt Texas picks up any diving points tonight.

This NCAA Championship meet has been one of the most competitive that I have seen. Top three and then a second group of three (4-5-6) possess really strong contingents of swimmers/divers. Go Pac 12! GO BEARS!

With that swim, Bears are National Champions!!!!

200 fly: Jett and Rose go 3-4! 1:39.40 and 1:39.89, both drops for them (behind Hayes from NC and Burns from IU).

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yup. That should be it, +47 going into diving and relays. Can DQ in relay and still be national champs. Fantastic job up and down the roster. Only one national individual champion and maybe a naty in the 4x100 fr relay so a true team effort.

Go Bears!!!

Ok- wondering- how do take 2nd in the PAC yet win the NC? Swimmers injured? Less depth but higher quality? Just more NCAA qualifiers?
